The RX 470 a true upgrade from a GTX 670?

Looked at some numbers and compared the RX 470 to the 960, now my 670 is faster in some games, just behind it and on par with it depending what game you throw at it.

The RX 470 in one of the games saw nearly a 3x lead, 25FPS on the 960 vs 69FPS

It's an awesome card if it is a true upgrade?

It is a great card, though that particular game is a bit in AMD's favor, so I'd check a recent review here on TPU to check on more games.

For $170 you can get rx480.

^^ The 480 is only a little more than the 470 in the UK. Get the 480 instead. Or wait until January to see if any NV product gets released that affects their pricing stack (thinking 1070).

Thanks guys

After the recent driver updates from red team, AMD look dominant for going forwards after release, they squeeze more from their products, and my XEON is plenty enough to encode video on the fly whilst playing games, so no issue streaming or recording for YT.

No reason not to spend a just a little more for the full Polaris chip.
The knock against the RX 470 has always been it's price point compared to the RX 480, and with prices dropping with special sales, I've seen the RX 480 4GB custom PCB cards sell for less than some Reference RX 470s.

That's not always the case. Sometimes to sell more cards, they just flash them with a bios that disable certain hardware elements. In the past, Ati and AMD have used this practice and intelligent fellas like our own Wizzard flashes them back. In facts, in the past, he has made tools to do just that. However, sometimes they physically diable the cards with a lazer. I'm wondering could this be the same as it was back in the day with cards like the 5850 to a 5870 etc.....

Now they been in production and are widely available they may now only come with the Stated 4gig of Ram

Just got my new Red Devil 470 and it is unreal. It doubled my frame rate so you cannot go wrong with either. In addition, it is nearly silent in my case. I'm not sure why this card got a bad rap because for the current price of $141.00 it is a beast.

The RX 470 4 GB or RX 480 4 GB were a tempting option then there was also the Geforce 1060 6 GB I was considering but decided the RX 480 8 GB was best way to go.

Three more days to go until Christmas then I'll find out if I was right.

Just bought Titain Fall 2 and 470 Devil is shredding it at 2k resolution 29 inch Ultra Wide. Also tried Battlefield One, FIFA 17 and the Batman Series all at 2k and it is blowing through them with the new drivers. I'm using the highest settings. I shocked at how powerful these card are. I was not expecting to average in multiplayer with 40 people max settings 70 to 100 FPS.
