I am having a problem with my graphics card.

Temperatures are low, display is great, but since some days ago, its fans are always spinning at full speed (about 5000 rpm)-

I did not any hardware change.

Trying to solve this problem, I installed different nvidia drivers (currently 376.33), the original ones... but it persists.

I installed GPU Tweak too, and it does not work, graphics card does not respond to its comands.

I even reinstalled Windows, removed the card and put it again, and problem didn't go.

Here is a screenshot of GPU-Z:

And here a GPU Tweak one:

Any solution?

If not a solution, does someone has Asus 1070 Founders BIOS different to the one already in techpowerup database? I have the same that is here, maybe I can try flashing another one.

Have you tried Afterburner, to see if you can control fan speeds through that, maybe even set up a fan curve?

something to do with the power connectors? Every GPU i have had since the GTX 2xx series would jack the fans full speed if there was a power issue.

Yes, I tested Afterburner, It gives the correct values for temperature, memory, fan speed... but it does not respond to my commands, I can set manual curve but It keeps going 100% speed always.

I have reconnected the 6 pin wire many times, could it or the PSU be malfunctioning? How can I check it?

Many thanks for your answers

I'm going home for Christmas, I can check there in an older computer the card to see if it works correctly with another power supply. (I think I have a 600W one there, I'm not sure)

Can you elaborate more when did it first happen? Was it running normal when you got it or not?

It seems like the two options left, based on all steps taken, are that it is either something physically broken on the card, or else the BIOS has gone screwy.

I really don't, in this case, think putting it in a different machine will be any different. On the other hand, it can't hurt to try.

Yes, it worked fine first two months, fans went up and down as required. Even gaming they stayed about 70%.

But one week ago, I turned on computer and they started going full speed, they never slow down.

I don't know if it was caused because of new drivers (I had auto update on Nvidia Geforce Experience), but then I tried different drivers (original from asus, several from Nvidia) and it didn't solve it.

Can you try it on a different PSU? If it doesnt work there either it could be a damaged fan cable/controller on the board and you will have to RMA.

Or if the card is using the Microsoft Basic Display Driver before you install the actual driver. This older R9 280 I have does that until I install the AMD drivers.

Do you mean an 8 pin ? because 1070's have 1x8pin not an 6 pin so connect an 8 pin from the psu .

Yes, sorry I mean 8 pin (6+2 in my power supply)

Do the fans spin up really fast straight away or once you are loaded into Windows?

Straight away when pushing the turn on button, before Windows loads.

I'm still waiting for the card to arrive to my Christmas home so I can check it on a different power supply.

Thank to everyone for your support!

Sorry for the long waiting, I was not able to check it because my computer was not compatible.

Yesterday I asked a friend to help me and now I checked that the same is happening on his computer, so it's not a PSU problem.

I will upload some screenshots later but it's the same: More than 5000 rpm all the time, with or without nvidia drivers.

I think is time to use card's warranty.

Thanks to everyone trying to help, and if someone is having same problem sorry, I didn't find any solution but RMA.

If possible I would pick an other Asus 1070 card, non-reference (non founder), it's cheaper, faster, runs cooler and it's quieter.:)
