[SOLVED] Think my 290X kicked the bucket.

Every time it goes into 3D the display turns off, don't matter what program if it uses 3D POOF it goes.

Things i have tried uninstalling drivers \ reinstalling them tried older ones all so tried re-seating the card but no luck there either.

Being short of trying reinstalling windows any other idea's out there ?, trying to avoid trying my older PSU as the system is not shutting down or any thing, it just loses display how ever seems a bit more to it than that as i can hear the disconnection and the system is none responsive and just sits there with random power usages which is dependent on what you tried to run.

take that card apart and replace the TIM and thermalpads on it, otherwise try another PSU bro.

Thats cool. Perhaps start RMA? But i believe you already started that.

I have sapphire acting almost same although combined with flickering etc etc. Been researching about reviving using heat gun. I dont have thermal gun so things still pending and also dont much have time as i have a little one who needs alot of attention.

Anyway good luck and do let us know if you figure out whats wrong.

had same problems with 7970. replaced old cm real power m1000 with evga g2 750. 7970 is still running like champ

Well so much of trying to avoid trying the PSU, finally found my trusty PC&Power (Seasonic) 750w silencer and every thing seems to be working as it should.

So i guess it's time to get on to Seasonic, at least i will not need to take all the cables out lol.

Put it through unigen testing etc. I guess my VaporX 290 was overbuilt lol.

Actually Mad Max pushes the system more, only a few games will push for the 390w-410w which is probably helped death up some time sooner. Watch Dogs is another that will push a system too.

Ashes of the Singularity pushes systems pretty heavily too, it runs my system far hotter than Star Citizen. Elite Dangerous on planets or in stations is another good one as I'm sure you know.

Anyways sorry to hear it might have kicked the bucket...unless the PSU swap test truly resolves it...which is good news! :toast:

Well XFX would most likley sent me a 480 which i would not be all that happy with. Still happy with my 290X regardless of power usage.

Yeah and not as if i pushed it either, but it happens to even the best. At least it did not fry some thing in the computer so i guess it did it's job to some extent.
