If you have one post it here. Lets see what you can do. FYI I cheated on Sandy and Ivy and am priming a 4.9 stock voltage on air. No big deal but even after I said I wouldn't, I did. My 2400+ ram fried during prime and when I went to Microcenter to exchange one kit Bam!!!! I fell in love again. I returned my second kit and IVY will soon be sold with my Sabertooth motherboard. My chips appears so far to be a beast, but I just started. It runs hot and uneven temp wise on the cores, but that just may be real temps needing an update. Any ridicule I received is deserved. I just couldn't resist. Please post your chips info as you go. Let the roasting begin on my decision.

Which Suckssss for NOW!!!! I recommend avoiding this junk for now.:D

Congrats dude! It happens to all of us! Lead the new shiny Kaby Lake TPU Revolution! 4.9 @ Stock is awesome! My better 4790K does 4.8 @ 1.26v, stock is around 1.18 or 1.2 iirc. Been so long I really don't recall!

I've read of a lotta folks delidding these chips because they seem to have pretty bad temp issues...worse than IB and Haswell did. Not sure how true that will hold...and not sure you wanna kill your brand new CPU warranty.

Not sure if Intel still offers it, but for a while they were offering a Performance Protection Plan that would cover a K-series CPU failure from overclocking (which the standard warranty does not) for around $25. Covered the full 3 years. Might be worth a look if you plan to not delid your CPU.

Just got mine all setup last night and haven't attempted much of an overclock yet, I Just set it for All cores 4.6ghz so pretty much nothing.

I Can say that the gigabyte Z270X motherboard massively overvolted it by default(Was wondering why it was so warm), it was pushing 1.35v through it, I manually dropped it to 1.23.

Priming 4.9 at 1.32v and just starting, because this Maximus bios is crazy hard to get a handle on . It seems like 4.9ghz to 5ghz is very doable under water but the heat jumps like crazy. I have a feeling these chips can take a bit more heat as well because even at 90c they dont fail prime. However, I suspect real temps is reading wrong because the motherboard monitoring is reading a lot lower, and that tool was right on with my old board. Also my overall system compared to my Ivy at 4.4ghz to this at 4.9ghz with the same ssd and going from DDR3 2400 to DDR4 3000 feels a lot faster. Maybe, I just want it to be, but it boots about 25 seconds faster, and it was fast already. As a matter of fact, it boots so fast that I can easily miss the bios screen. I think that may be board related.

Update, when I say this boots faster I mean from power to usable in 3 to 5 seconds. Everything is loaded in that time frame. It took 25 to 30 seconds on my old board. It is unreal the performance leap I'm seeing. I think I may have a few apologies to make as well. I did not see this coming. I thought I would be sorry, and I'm not.

FYI I cheated on Sandy
Just what do you mean by that?
Am I cheating if I have not raised any voltages my 2600K only raising Turbo limits?
5.2 was highest I tried but used 101bclk is that cheating?
Any way great to see the new Sandy on steroids kicking ass!:toast:

If that's average, Kaby is a bit more impressive to me. It must be a more refined node.

Getting my Skylake to 4.8Ghz was a pain in the ass, and this one is prebinned by Silicon Lottery (and pricey to boot).

Delidding did bring thermals way down for me. Using Kryonaut between die and on IHS.

Heck it does that at 1.25v on default (I haven't tried to go lower but I bet it will) . Like Ivy had from 4.4ghz to 4.5ghz there is a big jump in voltage and temps from 4.8ghz to 5.0ghz. On water this would be a total monster. I know I could game at 5.0ghz because it will boot at 1.37v but the temps made me chicken out on prime. Let me restate that, it would prime at that but the Tcase limits were at zero. It did not fail however. I thought these chip shout down at a certain thermal level but this one just kept going and scared the hell out of me.

It appears mine need 1.325 to hit 4.9ghz. I love overclocking this board because when it fails it take 5 seconds to reboot. I am going to play with the 500 other settings this bios has and see if I can lower that but I wouldn't bet on that. I already changed about 15 of them at least. Boards bios is really extensive.

Well to be fair, I could probably hit 4.9 but I like it prime temp-stable.

Still, very impressive.

I bet I could game on air at 5.1ghz at least. It is 4.9 stable 84C at prime, and at 5.0ghz its just hot as hell 90c ++++ reading zero to tcase limit. It is stable just prime kills it with heat. It's not failing at those core temps. I'm just not letting it go for fear it will die. However, my motherboard reads the cpu temps a lot lower, and again on my old board real temps and it matched. These don't match, so I'm off to see if there is an update for real temps. Also one core jumps way higher than the others in real temps. I might turn that core down if that's possible and up the others. I'm having trouble with the ram timing setting. There are several that I have never set before and the ones like in Cpuz are named different. So I need to figure that out as well. That could be effecting my overclock.

Try monitoring the temps with Intel XTU and see how it reports.
I'm really thinking that the pricing of Kabylake compared to Sandy is very sweet !
I now see where my upgrade path would be if forbid something craps on me.

My board is not supported by it.

this is from a KitGuru review and mines doing the samething

"The 1.35V overclocked i5-7600K would generally idle a little over 30°C and operated around 70°C when loaded. But that load value was incredibly dynamic and would jump from around 65°C to as high as 85 or 90°C in very short periods of time (seconds). Similar behaviour was observed with the i7-7700K which would idle around 30°C then jump from around high-60s to as high as almost 90°C under Prime 95 load."

Update core temps shows the same issue for me. The cores will spike up 17c for a half second on random cores. I wonder if this is a sensor issue.

lol, my temps have aparently worsened again with thermal dryout and I can no longer run an hour of Prime95 thermal-wise, something I insist on...

Back to 4.7Ghz in Skylake land... You may be making me jealous... ;)

Adaptive function for the cores is cool.

It is one Hot, literally hot, new Sandy if real temps is accurate. I will post some screens shot if I can remember how. I have been away from this forum for a long time.

Upload pictures to http://www.techpowerup.org and copy/paste the BBC code in your post. that's the method I prefer for image uploads, even over using the forum's built-in image attachment option.

Not sure how these chips operate, but Haswells were able to operate at the thermal limits and had a very effective thermal throttle algorithm. I would imagine these chips do as well, but I would like to confirm that with you and @cadaveca .

So really when you hit the thermal wall, your CPU should start to down clock its turbo speeds like modern GPU's do, but try to maintain the highest clocks it can at just under the temperature limit if possible.

Good to hear that 5GHz is looking like a promising average! I'm looking forward to seeing how many truly achieve that. I'm also curious to see who delids first and how much that affects temps here...I haven't looked too deep into results on other forums yet. So I'll patiently wait for one of you brave souls to give it a go. :D

I havnt been shooting for the absolute highest clocks I can get, I have been seeing how high I can go at somewhat low voltages.
So far, i'm at 4.7 100% stable at 1.22v in bios.. Maybe it'll clock a bit higher or take a bit less volts, not sure.

Ran mixed prime last night for right at 45 mins with no issues, this run was only around 15 min when i stopped it.

Whats the Vid on your chip mines 1.2395v. Im not sure how the default cooler can handles these chips. They must be counting on the adaptive traits to cool them down. I can use a mix of adaptive cores like 46,47,48, 5.0 ghz and set adaptive and get very high performance but most of the time my cooler cannot cool down this chip. I did reset my cooler and the cpu spikes went away. Now the cores are closure together but hot as hell. Example: if I run prime with a Pro Meg (big azz air cooler) with two 79 cf fans using1.2v at 4.7ghz my max core hit 85c. That is hot for 1.2v

So as an update, I not sure that it would not have been better to buy an older chip but got the new addition motherboard. My old board was good but his board is on a new level. This chips is a beast, but so was Devils Canyon and Skylake. For me, it is this motherboard that makes the difference, and it is not giant but substantial. I bet on air, the average chip will do 4.7ghz to 4.9ghz top end. The heat is tremendous and is the main factor that will hold you back. My chips seems like 4.7ghz /1.225v. will be my 27/7

I have no idea.. Motherboard was reading 1.325 but i think it was reading wrong.. not sure, maybe a bios update will come out soon. I'm not sure how else to read VID other than what the motherboard detects.

Whats the Vid on your chip mines 1.2395v. Im not sure how the default cooler can handles these chips.

Just received a new bios, so maybe my overclocking will improve. Core temps will tell you, your vid.

i think that 5ghz is just another intel marketing bs..

ES thing, retail 4.8ghz on avg, maaybe 4.9ghz here and there. Guess just a tiny bit better binned skylake. most skylakes did 4.6ghz.

I think your right here. I would look for a new chip in the near future that his redesigned. This reminds me of the old Pentium D days where Intel just kept bumping the clock. Still a good chip but not a leap. I am not sorry I upgraded, but I would not do it again if I knew now what I knew now. There really was no reason too other than aging parts in my computer and an itch for change.

Update,

It is the new bios, the old one worked much better but I cannot flash it since I did not save the old one and there is only one on the website. It will not lock the turbo, speed step, even though it say it is off is not. It also will not let you under volt the cpu and basically uses 1.264v or higher as you raise turbo and the cpu gets under load. The boards nice but must have been rushed out without a correct bios update. If I tweak too many bios voltage functions, cpuz will not read the voltage.

I am hoping there is an offset for turbo voltage but so far I have not found it.
Found it but it works like crap.
