EVGA is refreshing the top-end of its air-cooled GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 lineup with its new iCX cooling solution. Apparently, the company has redesigned the PCBs of its top-tier GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards from the ground up, in response to the recent VRM overheating issues. It also deployed a powerful new cooling solution just to be sure (and possibly to differentiate them from the older cards cooled by the ACX coolers).

EVGA showed us three cards in its 2017 CES booth, the GeForce GTX 1070 SC2 (model: 08G-P4-6573-KR), the GeForce GTX 1070 FTW2 (08G-P4-6676KR), and the GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 (08G-P4-6686-KR). The cards appear taller than their predecessors, and draw power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The company didn't detail the iCX cooling solution. It plans to replace the current SC, FTW, and possibly Classified series graphics cards from its product stack, with these new cards.

Yah boo, no interest unless that redesigned PCB has magical unlocked power limits.

Yea, sadly it makes those sweet special edition cards not as fun as they used to be since there is so many locks on the cards that normally require hard modifications to bypass :(. At this point its down to looks and noise for coolers to me at least.

As far as these go, they are ok looking. Would like to see them in action.

wanted you to know! :slap:

As i wrote you on WhatsApp, if the new Classified performance it's 20%/25 over the old Classified then i would upgrade.

In that case I think you have to wait for 1080Ti or buy a Titan :D (I'm not even sure if the Titan is 25% better than a 1080..)

Or even better, just be happy with what you have now!:)
:peace:

It is different looking, probably because it has so many vent slots, and they're arranged for cooling effectiveness instead of aesthetics - obviously EVGA has taken the overheating issues very seriously, and are protecting their well-deserved reputation as a top brand. The ACX cooler was getting a bit long in the tooth, anyway, and the new iCX cooler looks more capable (massive).

Nope, no change from previous ACX fans. I've personally watched them and felt for air. They do indeed blow down toward the heat sink like normal fans do, despite looking backward.

I recall EVGA saying that is their special design that makes them operate so quiet and cool. Except in reality their fans are no cooler or quieter than say, MSI's fans.
