AMD has seemingly confirmed that there will be more than just the fabled 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen CPUs we've only as of yet seen presented by the company. Come the expected Ryzen launch before the end of Q1 (which means, before the end of March), we should see more Ryzen CPUs than only 8-core solutions, though AMD still hasn't revealed exactly the core-count/configurations of the other CPUs on their product stack. Theoretically, AMD could follow the Intel path of simply disabling SMT (Simultaneous Multi-Threading, AMD's equivalent to Intel's Hyper Threading) and thus crafting another product, though this is pure speculation on my part. Whether or not AMD will include 4-core or 6-core CPUs on their product stack as well is as of now an unconfirmed, educated guess.

Additionally, in an interview with PCWorld, AMD's Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics business, said the company are "(...) not going to do a paper launch (...) We've done that before. We're not going to mess with it". AMD's Rob Hallock further shed some light on the "Q1" timeline of Ryzen's launch: "When companies say first quarter or first half, people assume that means the very end of that time frame," Hallock said. "The very last day of Q1 is not our trajectory."

Oh, and as a coup-de-grace (pardon my french, artistic liberty here), AMD has seemingly confirmed that all Ryzen CPUs will be unlocked and overclockable - though while overclocking is supported with every Ryzen processor, only the more enthusiast-focused AM4 boards with X300, X370, and B350 chipsets will actually be able to crank those chips to... your particular choice of multiplier.

iirc I believe that by design the lowest part must be 4C/8T

My estimation is that for now they will release only 2 cpu models for 4C/8T and 8C/16T with just different clocks and TDPs. I wish they price them in a way that Intel will be obliged to lower their prices but AMD will stay stable where they put theirs also. My thought is that lower and higher clocked 4C should be priced at about $150 and $250 respectively and the 8C at $400 and $550-600 also. Along with some quality mobos for $150 they will be a bargain for gamers and productivity users even if Intel drops their prices soon.

Price will be the deciding point. I am holding off a build because of this.

U disappoint me one more time, and it will be over for you and me, AMD.

I've got a i7-6700 media/secondary rendering rig. The i7 is too slow to be actually of any decent use. I feel Zen would be a nice replacement - if the hype is on target with darn actual product -. If not, I am going for another Xeon.

Don't think so. Not always at least. Look around the forum. People buy Titan like hot cakes.
OOT abit
I dont understand why they still buy it, its thermal throttled, mediocre component, barely adequate cooling, not allowed 3rd party to custom it

Ouch! And here I was, happy with my 8 render boxes scurrying around the screen.
Anyway, if Xeons were an option, why wait for Zen? At 8c/16t max, there isn't much to look for.

They want the Flagship GPU and they don't want to wait on the 1080 Ti or they believe that the 1080 Ti won't come out which it might not but I expect it will sometime around Vega.

Simple. It's top of the line, on surface at least which equals to ego and epeen. They can brag! Passive aggressive brag as well, like "Hey, dudes, this game ain't running at 14000fps. What the heck is wrong with my card?"

Ouch! And here I was, happy with my 8 render boxes scurrying around the screen.

The current Xeon was 350 USD on Ebay. I still see plenty of them ebay right now. Why wait for Zen? Well, it's new brand of hardware to play with. So, why not. I am not too desperate to build it.

The xeon scores 1700 in Cinbench. i7, 800. Meaning a 4 hour render on i7 becomes like 2 hour render on the Xeon.

yeah, which just means that 1000 dollars is still a good price point.
Let them make it 10.000 dollars and see if it still is bought like hot cakes.

Halo product the price doesn't matter to an extent as if it's the best there is worth in it even with the extreme diminishing returns.
Low end, price means everything.

Anyone knows what the top tier chipset is: The X300, the X370 or the B350 chipset?

The X370 would be the logical.....

This is good news. I've said many times before that I felt Intel was pulling a dick move by locking out overclocking as they have done. Don't allow anyone to mess with the BCLK, unless you buy the much more expensive K series processor (or, if you really feel like burning your money, the extreme edition), and then on top of that force them to buy the overclocking enabled Z series motherboard... and then smack down other companies who seek to enable these features anyway on non-Z boards. Intel knows they're far ahead of AMD right now and it shows. I hope AMD has a big enough stick this time to knock them down a flight of stairs or two.

I'd rather AMD drop the idea of 4c and less. Future lies in 6c and up. 6c for low end? Think about it. Everybody( well most of people) are stuck with 4c/8t which is not bad but lowend 6c/12t. If AMD can pull this one off that would be great and beneficial for all the costumers and Intel can suck it with it's lineup :D Come to think of it if ZEN's 8c/16t is kinda mainstream then 6c/12t is reasonable for lower end CPUs :)

Jus to add.
An OC for all that would like to try it? Now that's definitely a feature like it used to be not an architectural improvement. Pretty cool i'd say:D

I really, REALLY hope that this time around AMD actually delivers. Saying that I am an AMD fanboy is saying a little much, but I always liked their stuff and would gladly upgrade to AMD again when they produce actually worthwhile hardware (not only price-wise).
