Which EK pump is better?

Just received the watercooling kit. Cool stuff these EK parts....

Horrified I find that instead of the part "EK-DDC 3.2 PWM Elite Edition (Square) Pump" I get a (round)
"Revo D5".
The first one is a separated pump and the second a round one. So my build would change....

I thought the DDC was superior as this kit is the top op the range of kits (Extreme 360). But on their website it shows a flow of 1000L/h ... and the received Revo delivers 1500 L/h. Could I use it?

So am I getting fooled or am I lucky? :-D

Both pumps are high quality pumps.

The DDC has a smaller footprint than the D5.

The DDC has a higher head pressure than the D5.

The D5 has a higher flow rate than the DDC.

The D5 is quieter than a DDC.

The DDC runs hotter than the D5 hence why people usually put an heatsink on the bottom of their DDC.

So all in all, both pumps are excellent and it become more of a personnal choice than anything else.

what Luc said
and i had a strong pump laing and a cheap phobya dc12-220 with only 400L and both could fire up a chiller and watercooling on cpu+gpu.
these high figures with 1000L or 1500L sound good but for a normal setup its not so important-maybe for quad sli + nb+sb+vrm +cpu cooler.

They really need to start pushing for 2000 L/hr pumps with at least 4m of head pressure.

I've looked at older pumps and compared to newer ones and technology doesn't seem to have gotten much better in recent years. (someone correct me if I'm wrong please).

Laing D5 are superb pumps. Normally sold as 'vario' with adjustable pump speeds via analogue or PWM control. So bloody quiet.

Also why would you need 4m of head pressure? It's not a cock waving competition.

Both are fine pumps. The DDC is just smaller and tends to have higher head pressure and lower flow rate, where as the D5 has higher flow and lower head pressure. The D5 is a god tier pump when combined with a performance top like a reservoir/pump combo like the Photon.

Yeah high head pressure like that isnt very necessary without non-restrictive watercooling blocks and radiators have become.

hahaha that made me laugh lol :)

Maybe I'll need to look at something with more head pressure for running a higher viscosity, sub-zero loop.

My current pump is rated:
1500 L/hr (max)
3.9m head (max)

I cannot agree with this more. My D5 Vario with an EK X-top has been superb and quiet. I recommend the D5 if you can swing the extra coin and have the spare room in your chassis for it.

Edit: Saw you already received the D5. Thow a top on it and I think you will be very happy.

First of all , Thanks to LUC, that was a quick reply! :)
After opening the sealed plastic that comes with the part, I found out that it was a compatible part: an independent pump. From outside it looked like a all in one pump for reservoir....

I will post a build log maybe tomorrow. Took lots of pics. I finished transitioning from one case to another adding this kit... some 6 hours of fun! I am very happy! Thank you to all!

I have one, it is running at full speed, moving 4L ½ Coolant through my Water setup.

Strong enough?

XSPC have some cheap pump/res combo, Ion.
DC Pump. How she work compare to others DDC and D5.
XSPC Ion look nice, but D5 is probably better and cost more.

Cocks aside, most D5's are quiet but not all. I've got 4 of them, two silent, one makes a little whirring noise and another a whining noise. I think the latter are older models.
