Nope, it just needs to mature some more.
vendors will give up before it has a chance, HTC can barely stay afloat as it is.

VR could follow, or be replaced by better VR technology. Generally VR has much more sense to it than 3D because it's the whole deal and not just some 3D effects. So I'd rather say it will be succesful in the long run.

I think VR will go the same way too. For example, the PSVR headset costs as much as a PS4 Pro and way more than a PS4. Plus it needs to be worn and has that nausea factor.

It's nice and it's cool, but unless a 3D technology is created which doesn't need glasses to view it and looks completely natural, it'll never take off.

The main problem that I can see is that the eyes are physically focusing and converging at one distance, while the image is another, which is the source of that sickie feeling, something that doesn't happen when looking around with your own eyes.

You couldn't do anything new with 3D apart from neat effects in existing media, with VR/AR you can do entirely new things. What paperpusher deskjockey would not want to be able to arbitrarily pin new windows on the air around them? I know I would.

Vr headsets give me headaches, no thanks. In some it can cause psychological issues besides eye problems and headaches.

VR seems too expensive to develop for at this time. Once consoles are able to power VR at high framerates it may catch on more.

I don't think there is enough interest in VR in the general population to make it a long time thing. The same reason why I think 3D TV died, it was a expensive fad imo, it might work in a cinema because the cinema can cove the cost of expensive equipment.

I think VR will die too, it is too expensive and it's just gimmicky games and stuff, there is not enough for the general population to make them spend the money to buy the headsets etc.

The thing is VR/AR can be beneficial in so many ways. 3D did not provide ways for improving therapy, for example. It didn't affect medicine training. It is obviously not there yet, but VR/AR is - I believe - the future, for reals. Take the example I gave earlier: arbitrarily creating new windows with documents/spreadsheets anywhere you want, and no one else see them. Give it a while for it to become popular enough and have the general concepts nailed down ... and the future will be here.

Cost aside, I think VR is here to stay. Too many great things can be done in VR and for me it is the single biggest blow my mind experience I have had since I discovered PC gaming. To think of the benefits VR can bring to so many fields.

The tech is too new, visual clarity is not up to the standards of most people and the cost is too high. BUT I think given time, new technology and companies backing it; we will see amazing things done with VR.

Sometimes just trying it for the first time will sway someone that originally thought: "bah!" My friend was that person. He had all sorts of negative things to say, spouting off all the shit he has read online like facts. Then he was over and I said, try it out dude. (He is now saving up to buy his own rift.) He has to make the larger investment too as he does not have a PC that can handle the Oculus. So his investment will be high but he went from no way is it worth it to I'm spending that money...within minutes.

To say people are blown away when using the Vive or Rift is an understatement.

I worried about the headaches, motion sickness I have read about, especially since I suffer motion sickness when in a car and not driving myself, but so far I have not had a single issue. No headaches, no motion sickness at all.

Well if VR would fail I only see one alternative on the long run that's better, and that's direct connection to your brain that lets you experience anything in ultra reality, like in the "Matrix". Or at least something along these lines.

You need to try resident evil 7 on Psvr, it's all good.
Seriously better than I expected.
