Acer Unveils the XR382CQK 38-inch Ultrawide Curved Monitor

Acer today unveiled its high-end XR382CQK 38-inch monitor. This ultra-wide curved monitor with a curvature of 2300 R, serves up a native resolution of 3840 x 1600 pixels, with a response time of 5 ms, viewing angles of 172°/178° (H/V), 300 cd/m² brightness, and 10-bpc (1.07 billion colors) support. The display takes input from DisplayPort 1.2a, and HDMI 2.0, with support for AMD FreeSync technology over DisplayPort.

The XR382CQK features active blue-light reduction technology, a non-PWM method of controlling brightness (reduces LED flicker), "black boost," which improves contrast, and game modes (presets) specific to various game genres. Measuring 896.9 mm x 327.7 mm x 309.1 mm (WxDxH), it weighs about 10.71 kg. It supports VESA wall mount. Other features include a 4-port USB 3.0 hub including one type-C port. Available now, the XR382CQK is priced at USD $1,299.

What's up with the resolution? The rest of the 38" ultrawide competition has 3840x1600. Even the upcoming ASUS has a lower price tag too.

Ok the price may be a problem but with LCD's still having that native resolution bs im sure there is market for a less high resolution purely because they dont want to have to also fork over 2000 dollar for two Titan X Pascals.

Same for me, I would love a 32 inch monitor that is 2560x1440 rather then one that runs at 4k.

I own a few 4K displays and they do a great job at their given task / use case. My needs go beyond just gaming though. I can lower the resolution and they typically look great depending on the resolution they are set to but this requires a reasonable divisible resolution of the native resolution. So 1920x1080 looks reasonably good but 2560x1440 doesn't look as good on a 4K monitor then 2560x1440 on a native 2560x1440 display. So lowering the resolution a 3840x1600 native display to 3440x1440 would almost certainly look wrong.

There's a typo in the press release I guess, this monitor also has a 3840 x 1600 resolution.

That is also a typo, and the Acer product page is yet to correct it. The 34" version of this monitor uses a 3440 x 1600 resolution, whereas this 37.5" version has a 3840 x 1600 resolution as with all other monitors using this panel.

surely they aren't putting weight on that resolution alone and then not even marketing it correctly LOL oh and the 38" size but honestly 32" seemed massive for me, going from my 27 to a 32 was a big step up and had to sit back a little more. so I can only imagine 38" just being that much more, just not worth that price without refresh rate and Gsync

Relatively new panel, so R&D and low yields are included in. Asus will have one coming up soon with this panel at a slightly lower cost.

To be honest, at this point, I would recommend using a decent TV instead.

If ASUS comes up with a similar panel, we can only hope that it AT LEAST has DP 1.4, for, you know, 120Hz or more...
