Is there any reasonable competition yet, or is it still mostly just Samsung 960?
I'm running out of space and am looking into upgrading, but I want the next disk to be NVMe. Not necessarily because of as high speeds as possible though.
Shall I wait few more months?

I would wait, theres absolutely no reason to invest in it, unless you're dealing with large and complex files, otherwise theres no(very little) difference between SATA III SSD's and the NVMe.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

Have you owned one?

While the difference isn't night and day unless, as you said, deal with large and complex files, there are improvements to be had all around. Everything loads faster, games, apps, productivity apps, etc. The desktop feels snappier. I've run double blinds on my wife (same OS image but on sata ssd and nvme) and she could easily tell which was which.

Anyway, you have the OCZ RD400, Patriot Hellfire, Intel 750... all solid choices.

I don't need 3000MB/s disk. I do however want something significantly faster than lousy 500MB/s. I wouldn't benefit from it often, but often enough for it to make a difference. Plus I am an extremely impatient person, so copying few tens of GBs around gets annoying quickly. Besides, as I understand it, NVMe is not entirely about raw speeds.
I'm most probably looking into getting 1TB something so I can toss this damn Spinpoint disk out into a cabinet among backup hardware. That means I would ideally like something cheaper than the 960 series. Doesn't have to be top speed, but consistent and reliable.
I guess I will wait anyway.

So please @Ebo don't give me suggestions about not getting one and how I don't need it. I didn't ask for that.
