Hard to bet excited for 1080Ti to be honest. (although kinda interesting that it is happening now, is nVidia sure about perf levels of Vega?)

To my knowledge, companies schedule such events a few months in advance, both being on the same day might easily be a coincidence.

In the end, it might actually downplay 1080Ti launch as most people will be talking about Ryzen.

If i had to choose which event to attend, than red camp would be a no-brainer for me. 1080Ti will be few % slower than Titan XP and quite a bit cheaper. That's it, nothing to look at. Same thing is happening every single year, no innovations, nothing. While AMD Ryzen event is totally opposite.

Ha, NVIDIA wishes! GTX 1080 Ti is too expensive for most gamers to care. Ryzen, on the other hand, is upsetting the almost 11 year status quo. GTX 1080 Ti will be a footnote while Ryzen gets mainstream press coverage.

This behavior coming out NVIDIA is expected: very unsportsmanlike.
It's not nvidia who wishes it, it's nvidiots who wishes it.
Look, why would anyone ever think that a release of an already released chip with different configuration would be any newsworthy?(or even capable to make you attend to its presentation)
I'll tell you why it's newsworthy... Because tpu never ever had an amd ryzen exclusive leak or piece of info, even VC had more exclusives on ryzen even though they focused only of gpus.
It's like the time tpu didn't get an amd sample and they made an article about it and then they where bragging for stealing clicks off of google searches, from ppl who wanted to see the review.
The only one who is trying to steal something is tpu.
Nvidia had its plans, you cannot host sth or publish something out of the boue just because the competitor shows publishes something. That's a weak move nvidia wouldn't make because they don't need to do it. It's just the usual tpu articles that try to make some noise because the last year everybody else gets info about hot products and they sit here releasing PR.

Well, if there is any truth to this....in my opinion, nvidia are not trying to steal anything from AMD, they are actually trying to use the hype around Ryzen to promote their card. What they might be thinking is this... look, AMD is launching a new CPU which appears to be a good performer so lots of people will be building new systems around it. Why not offer them a beefy new graphic card to go along with it? With tax season coming up and all.... And then you have custom system builders such as Falcon, Origin, Puget etc. who are more than eager to offer Zen+1080ti systems to their customers. I mean, even if this isn't true it's way more believable than nvidia trying to steal thunder from Ryzen launch with 1080ti lol...

Why would nvidia care about Ryzen?! It's a processor arch, they don't build x86 processors.

It might be actually good for them too, if Ryzen delivers. More PC/PC parts sales will most probably affect them too.

Says who? We haven't seen a legit bench yet. Could be a bulldozer 2.0.

I think NVIDIA is closer to being ready to launch their HBM2 parts so they're pushing this out of the door to move the chips before their own HBM2 products compete with GTX 1080 Ti. I get the impression Vega didn't have anything to do with the decision.

That said, how Vega compares to NVIDIA's current line up depends entirely on what clockspeed it runs at. RX 480 debuted disappointingly low.

Jim Keller don't do Bulldozer, man! Bulldozer's design was crippled from inception (two integer cores sharing a floating point unit which, historically, has been the weakest link in processors). There's nothing on the surface crippling about Ryzen. On top of that, Intel and AMD are both on 14nm process tech now: the first time they had process parity since Pentium D and Athlon 64 X2 (don't quote me on that: guesstimate).

Nothing crippling, we have only minor int/fp disbalance compared to intel, floating point wise Zen core is around sandy bridge/ivy bridge throughput, but in integer math throughput it's beefier than kaby lake. Different ratios of instruction type mixes in the code will certainly produce variable results ... int heavy code could really shine on zen, but fp/avx heavy code will favor intel. Game math is almost exclusively single precision floating point math.

If this is true, it would be a bad move from Nvidia. Not because it's cruel or anything, but rather because it will be a wasted effort. If they're smart they'll tease some details and release it a week after this event.

To all of you who don't care about GTX 1080 Ti; this is a significant upcoming product, if you don't like it go play somewhere else.

Nobody cares about the 1080 Ti Nvidia. We already know what its about anyway. Its will be 15% faster for double the cost. Not interested.
It will be ~30% faster than GTX 1080 and cost ~40% more, so a good deal for demaning gamers.

Pascal wasn't even anything radical. Sure, it delivered performance, can't argue with that, but Vega is what really interests me hugely. The new rasteizer engine, new poly unit, new tesselator unit, going tile based rendering, new memory architecture with HBM2 and also the way how they'll going to probably use main system RAM, it's all really interesting stuff.
Granted, you are allowed to be interested in anything. But still, how can Pascal be less exciting than Vega? Pascal is still a more efficient architecture. AMD may be the masters for PR and making a big deal out of every tiny feature, but at the end of the day real performance matters, not the hype.

Do you really think nVidia will charge only 800$ for a card allegedly faster than $1200 Titan X Pascal with Vega missing? I will be surprised if the card is under $900.

You basically don't know nothing about Vega and yet you keep telling us how fast it is and how much power it consumes. Please stop doing this until it releases, thanks!

A significant upcoming product it is, but not compared to Ryzen... Not anywhere close. You're looking at the first mass market octacore vs. a cheaper variant of the existing Titan line.

One product is ~30% faster and 40% more expensive, and the other is ~50% cheaper and beats/matches the fastest cpu on the market.

All of you can read right? This is SPECULATING that Nvidia "COULD" do this.

And why on earth can't Nvidia announce a new card at GDC? Its a GAME developers conference. Is it their fault AMD has been waiting and waiting and waiting to release their CPU line?

I hope for all of you AMD fanboys this isn't going to be another No Man's Sky.

If it's the 1080Ti, then it's just a lower priced Titan X, there is no mystery here. AMD will steal nv's thunder if this collision happens. Well, that doesn't account for media reported getting paid off as usual.

But the fact remains, NVidia is non-competitor in the CPU/SoC space. Perhaps they should sign up Keller now?

Even if they could, there's nothing he can do for them. Intel won't print anymore x86 licenses and AMD invented x64. Good luck to anyone trying to make a desktop cpu w/o either of them. And specifically for Nvidia, how they gonna get a x64 license... lmao.

I'm so torn here. I had my eyes on a Kaby/Ryzen + 1080Ti build, but somewhere in the back of my mind I know I should probably wait for Vega. I'm thinking that the 1080Ti will be $900, but it'd be hard to pass up for $800... or I can just wait.

...Decisions, decisions.

The ironic thing about the licenses right now is that x86 is pretty much dead so Intel is like living off AMD in a roundabout way.

x86 arch is in the phones even unfortunately.
