For an ASUS x58 Motherboard. 3pc DDR3 set 1600 speed preferred. 3 x2GB (6GB total) or more. Got any kicking around? This'll be for a second WCG crunching rig, great cause.

But really, even 3x 1GB's would do.
Triple channel isn't really necessary for crunching- a single 4GB stick would be just fine.

Unfortunately, I don't have any spares atm. :(

Yea, I was wondering. I know with dual channel, there was about a 10% hit when it was run single channel, not really significant with WCG, its more about CPU powerz. I saw a few eBay 3x2GB DDR 1600 kits hovering around $40

So how much is it that you need just a single stick or do you actually need all three?

And is this indeed for a tech power up crunching project?

Indeed it is, I bought a second x58 board with an i7 950 in it. With that plus the 12t x5670 humming away, there will be 20 threads a crunchin'

If you want ram that for sure will work in a Asus motherboard. I can recommend these Corsair ram. Using 2 set of 3 sticks so i have 12 GB in total. They are testet and works great in these two Asus X58 mobo i have tried them in (Asus Rampage 2 Extreme with an I7 920 where memory ran for nearly 8 years in this mobo and now a Asus p6x58d premium with a I7 980X 6 core monster where the ram has be running about 2 monfh now with no problem).

These ram i talking about. If you are planning on serious overclock (4 Hz+) go for 1600 MHz ram.

Here are some prof what these ram made me achive of OC with the two X58 CPU´s have had/have. Just if you are planning on overclock these chips and remember they get hot when OC, so they need a good cooler. That means no cheap crap cooling. In contrast i use for I7 920 a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with two Silverstone FM121 120 MM fans and Artiv Silver 5 cooling paste and for the I7 980X i use a Noctua NH-D14 aircooler with 3 Silverstone FM121 120 MM and used thermal grizzly kryonaut cooling paste.

Just to get an idea of temp here is my I7 980X @ 4.25 GHz after a Intel burn test for 1 hour. Hottest Core peaked at 71 C and if you want to ensure a long life span temp whise, Dont go much over 70 C.

First image here is how my I7 980X runs for every day use.

Here are som OC benchmark of I7 920 aswell as I7 980X. Got some nice clocks out of them.

Besides that. Have fun with them. X58 is still a nice platform to screw around with. I know i like it at least.

First... its the PX6 deluxe that I'm waiting for. Comes with an i7 950. I hear so much about the 920 that Im guessing getting a 950 is kinda pointless given the x58 overclocking!

Second... l got impatient and got 4x 2Gb G.Skill 1600 C9 1.5v mem swt on eBay for $40 shipped. It's got killer ratings on newegg. The XMS3 calls for 1.65v same speed ant timings. The G.Skill is F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL. 4x2GB. C9 1.5v spec. We'll see! All the best.

About I7 920. Well it is the first, cheapest and the most sold of all the X58 cpu, so it is no wunder why you here so much about it and off cause after getting a reputation of being a great overclokker and can be clokket to out performen even the I7 975X cpu that at the time cost 3-4 times as much. I7 920 where/is just a great little CPU with a big grunt when first hitting 4 GHz+ and even today it can paly most games with out a problem.

Those memory looks great :)
