Been a while since I've posted anything on here... But the whole Ryzen chip has my interest. I was on team Red for a very long time till almost 2 years ago when I got the 4790k. So my question is, How many of y'all plan on switching to the Red side? Or are you currently Red and just upgrading to the AM4 platform?

Let's keep this civil and not create a fan war!

Sticking with my current obsolete hardware
suffering from Wallet-ites ( my Wallet is very sick and poor(ly).

I know the feeling! That's another issue I was looking into was cost. Currently I'm happy with Intel.. But if this pushes them to drop prices, I'll stay Intel. But then again 4790 is the best I can use in my board lol So upgrade may come soon...ish

I ran AMD from 2003 to 2011, and I switched to Intel in 2011 with Sandy Bridge. However 2017 looks to bring me back to AMD, and I'm fine with that.

Indeed but a thread title with a 'vs' usually promotes silly arguments.

Given the choice of platforms that are on a level. I'd go AMD. They don't tend to change socket so often, so you get a bit more life in upgrades. Intel you know you are product locked to 2 generations, After than it'll be a new motherboard as well as the CPU.

Saying that I did get burned by socket 939. However the single chip I had performed very well in the games I was playing for far longer than expected. So it wasn't such a bad burn.

I don't think I ever bought an intel new until sandy bridge. So I ran from 1999 with slot A, Right through to 939. So 12 years without an intel machine from new.

That's another thing I was thinking too.. AMD sticks to one socket for awhile! I'm still trying to get use to the whole Intel thing... z97, z99, wtf22... why so many???

when CPU's are so reliable stockholders need to see returns on investment
this drives (mainly Intel ) to release new upgraded Cpu's to drive Sales
side effect to also drive Sales is new socket to force OEM Board makers to buy new chipsets ( again Intel)
By Releasing upgraded CPU on new Socket and new Chipset Intel Drives NEW SALES and therefor increased profits
(My Opinion )

Wow, exact same here. Went from a Phenom II x4 965 to 2600k to 3570k to 5820k. Now I have a 5820k going to a R7 1700X.

Yeah, that's a pretty big factor for many people I'm sure. Now you don't have to drop $150 extra each time you want to upgrade your CPU.

I think the big question should be: Does Intel have a response? Is Intel's next processor release finally going to be significant or did they not expect any competition? If Intel's next processor is also another 5%, that would mean Zen plus would leapfrog Intel most likely. Of course, speculating that Zen is decent but I think it's a safe bet given the benchmarks we've seen.

Yes, I am a diehard AMD fanboy, been exclusively AMD since the Thunderbird days. Getting my Ryzen 7 1700 on 3/2/2017. I am sure I read that AM4 would be supported through 2020.

I like AMD, but Intel has controlled the market for quiet some time now. With that being said, even the current FX lineup offers great performance for the price. Having used the Fx-8320 processor for years paired with a SSD and numerous graphics card combinations, I know it performs great. I'm currently planning on rebuilding my old FX-8320 to It's former glory with the low prices of these solid octa-core processors, and it'll be easy on the bank account. I plan on pairing It with a Msi Lightning GTX 780 with a water block on it for a little watercooling loop. I think it'll be an awesome little PC!

I'm moving in december to ryzen after the dust settles and better steppings and bios are stable for the parts.

This 8350 has served me well.

I've thought about waiting til bios matures and sees better options for OCing and such. Yet, I don't want to wait too long to get right into it so I think I'll pull the trigger as soon as I can afford it; I have the itch ;)

Same I was going to wait for teething issues to be sorted out and when revisons, e.g 17#0X, come out try to snag one on sale but after getting a brand new CPU my mb just up dies on me 2 weeks ago.

I'd say most are going to replace the cpu/mobo/ram and keep the rest of the system. I can wait as I don't really need to do it yet so it'll be a test if patience.

Im interested in hearing more feedback about the DDR4. I have an old kit I bought here on the forums but I never used it. I hope it'll work smoothly in the AMD build but I don't know if it will.

I'm sure your kit will run fine. My Kit despite being ripjaws is running Trident 2400 timings other than the 20 and 20 settings, my signature has it all. I'd run them with relaxed timings on yours first.

Two things really :)

- I'm once more reminded of how.. sane? Logical? I am compared to the kind of "people" this market primarily addresses..
I mean, i've heard and read it all in just a couple of days, lol
i) Gaming on 1080p is for peasants/retards/clueless people. Must be at least 4K, if you go blind, even better
ii) 5FPS of a difference is cause for war and Russians stabbing other fellow Russians to death
iii) The difference between 135 and 140 FPS, even though negligible, is enough to make people foam at the mouth and act like spastics just because
iv) if i want more than just one lane running at 3.0 x16 on my mobo i am a diehard fanboy
v) Half price is still not good enough, logical is half price AND better performance!
vi) LN2 cooling is a consideration factor for everyone and worthy of articles. Everyone, i mean even monkeys OC with LN2, so why not base your purchase on that
vii) Kids were always... kids.. (i hate them), but this is 2017 and even 50yr olds can be kids now. The joy
Could go on..

- I don't have 'sides'. At some point in our life, we switch from black n white to other, more greyish hue variations, lol
Am happy this didn't turn out to be another Bulldozer fiasco, am definitely happy with the results thus far, as in my opinion they go along with the price.
Am very, very happy i have more options as a consumer.
And will definitely be purchasing the 3rd generation equivalent of the 1800x when it comes out. Patience is a virtue.

Far as Intel is concerned, nothing to see here, history always repeats itself. Too much money, zero competition, we all know how that goes. Sincerely hoping AMD invests the profits well. Can only imagine what they'd do if they had the actual manufacturing leeway Intel does (am thinking of foundries, [re]calibrating, costs, etc). Maybe someday..

I think that AMD has released something after 4-6 years of time, everyone wins no matter who you go with because prices will be competitive again

As of now im keeping my good old X58 setup.

I am not going to any of them. Intel is to exspensive right now and AMD dit not have that gaming and OC performance i hoped for. OC suck on Ryzen to be fair. I mean not much over 4 GHz and that need around 1.5 volt with is alot for a 14 NM cpu. Exsample my good old 32 NM cpu only needs 1.35 vcore to do 4.25 GHz and that is a 7 year old cpu.

Long live X58. Intel for there prices :slap: and AMD for There dissapointing OC (yes OC potential is a very importen part then i bay new cpu):nutkick:.

@FYFI13 was that directed to me?
Is the word 'retard' considered uncivil? 'Cause barring it (and i don't know your age but i do know mine and i do still have my dictionary handy), there was no swearing, no personal attacks. Just an opinion and one based on actual facts, most of which transpired here, so one need not even look that far. So assuming said word, mentioned once, wasn't it (and your idea of PC isn't by necessity mine), do help me in ascertaining what made my reply uncivil if you wouldn't mind.

edit: aaah, it's "spastic". That too has fallen under the PC junta, i keep forgetting. My apologies, must remember it's pretense first, self censorship second, speaking your mind last. It is 2017 after all. Sorry, just.. i tend to think we've lost track, you're obviously entitled to think otherwise. No offense was meant anyway :)
