None of government's business.

The rise of the nanny state suggests otherwise.

Art is art. Art can be labeled by governments but it should never be forbidden. Art is usually a reflection of the individual and society that produces it.

How did we get from censored games to Art  Do you think someone having their head blow off in a game is art???

Why yes, I do actually, because, you know, it quite literally fits the definition of the word.

art

NOUN
  • The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

Luckily you won't be seeing people with firearms on the streets in my country... Personally I think that's a good thing. Criminals are another thing ofc...
Normally only the police/military.

I'm glad they are not banned in mine. That means Ill NEVER have to worry about being a slave or a victim of tyranny. I would rather have dangerous freedom, than safe slavery.

Good for you then! :)

I'm not a slave to anyone though, I live in a free country.:)

My father left me a very large collection of firearms when he passed away. We grew up with a healthy respect for them and a healthy knowledge of how to use them. But I would have friends over I would always remember them wanting to see them or handle them but to me it was weird because I was so familiar with them it was like me coming into your house and proclaiming " oh my God you have spoons !!??"

In my experience those who fear something tend to be ignorant regarding that thing. I don't mean it as an insult I just mean it as a lack of knowledge. I don't like how children nowadays are being socially programmed to fear weapons. It's not the fault of a gun at someone gets killed no more than it is the fault of a pencil when you miss spell something. However the stakes are admittedly hire with the former.

And I can see the point being made that if you live in a free country you shouldnt require a firearm, however shouldn't is a term that is not guaranteed but rather hoped for. People shouldn't have to die when their 8 years old from leukemia. People shouldn't be persecuted because of the color of their skin. An entire race shouldn't be murdered because they're different. but unfortunately shouldn't is a word that gets used a lot & the reality is I'd rather have a gun in case what shouldnt happen ,happens

Gratuitous blood and gore isn't art

In Britain fists separate the men from the boys. But there is the odd fool with a knife to spoil the fun.

Funny, in 1776, it was the colonist that separated the men from the boys. :toast:

1776 has been and gone. If we had guns in the UK there would be a bloodbath. The government knows this, hence the tight restrictions.

I just can't understand this bizarre puritanism with games. Sex related stuff, BANNED. Violence, BANNED. And then you have basically 18 hours of action movies with gore on all ends and TV series with constant references to sex and also rather explicit content at fingertips of any kid that has TV in home, that's totally fine though.

I mean, we are generation who grew up with sexual and violent games without any ratings. And we turned out just fine. But these current generations need everything classified with idiotic ratings, warning labels on all ends and wrapped in cotton so their booboo feelings don't get hurt. Give me a freaking break.

It's parent's job to moderate what kids consume, not god damn government, by banning game country wide. It's beyond idiotic.

It's only in Australia. Here in the UK the government want restrictions for online porn.

Won't someone think of the children.

Show me a relevant artist who thinks blood and gore is art.

Well, I'll start with Shakespeare, (as a Brit I would assume you would be very well versed in the immense amount of violence in his works). I assume you also know he is one of the most well known literary artist in the world. If you prefer Roman "Art" I would point you to Dante Alighieri, the author of The Divine Comedy. Arguably one of the greats in his particular field of "art".

Keep in mind, these are literary works. My wife is an art history major, so if you would like, I can provide more examples specific to the particular field you would prefer. But if we shouldn't call these literary works art, because they are violent, I'm sure quite a few would have really serious objections.

JAT

Edit: a couple of more, just for fun, because these and many other WORKS OF ART are in museums around the world and considered to be relatively priceless:

CARAVAGGIO - JUDITH BEHEADING HOLOFERNES

Yes but it's never appealed to me.

No need for any lessons thanks.
I used to live in one of the oldest Roman cities in the UK. Seen plenty of Roman art and know about their violent history.

That's great! What more can I say......
I still don't think violent games are appealing.

It depends if the end user is a Sociopath or Psychopath IMO.

If anyone is foolish enough to play a violent video game and not realise that it is just a game then they would be a danger to the public even if they never saw a video game.

You might as well legislate against stupidity as against violent video games.

Appealing wasn't the discussion. A government forcing their morals and banning art was the discussion.
