Sli works just fine and does all it is suppose to do with in it's specifications. But the new driver release 378.92 has a lot of things to support the 1080 Ti and is mostly targeted to the 1080Ti. Would have to be daft to not try the new driver release for a new card that has been released. https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-geforce-graphics-drivers/

"
New Features

  • Added support for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti "

And these drivers came out today so it is a MUST in the trouble shooting of the OP problem!

Before installing today's new drivers. Uninstall previous drivers in the control panel. Run Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode (the program gives you that option), then install your new drivers. When installing don't install 3D vision or any crap like that you don't need.

Hell, it's only a matter of time before official SLI support is dropped, just wait a couple more years. Games continue to get worse and worse, so wtf do AMD and Nvidia care?

I have a hunch it is fixed now by the new drivers...I seen the OP popped in the thread view around 7:30pm and then again about an hour ago and hasn't said anything here so I bet he is testing it and having better results now....Fingers crossed!

Gave the new drivers a go and no change, sadly. I'm going to try and get the whole setup out of the case either tonight or tomorrow and give the whole thing a good look over - check the CPU/socket for bent pins, make sure the GPUs are intact etc etc.

Don't have a spare SLI bridge unfortunately, and would prefer not to spend any more money until I've ruled everything else out.

With that in mind, I can't find anything wrong with the motherboard itself, all PCI-E slots seem fine and in active gaming tests across FO4 and WD2, there's no issues on any of them - I'm starting to think that simmply sending one of the cards back and sticking to just one. It makes the build not quite as future proof as I'd hoped it'd be, but it solves a lot of headaches, and things still run at 4K max settings at a full 60FPS. Thoughts?

That my friend would be a very wise choice, you can get the next best thing in 2-3 years. You should be more than fine with this setup for a while.

PSU is something I'm thinking of, but EVGA's power checker actually recommended this specific one for my setup.

If it was the psu, your whole system would shutdown instead of games crashing. Looking over some of the posts, it's not clear whether your cpu is overclocked? Going SLI will put more stress on your cpu/pcie controller, fyi.

You want to ask @cdawall on that?

Also @Ben Clarke is still having issues.

I am betting it is his board overheating. I would bet under load that mosfets or chipset is getting hot and kicking off.

This guess comes from all of the crazy issues I had getting my pair of 480's stable.

I know it might sound silly but you have nothing to loose. Check if the PSU=>GPU cables are fully plugged in, not unplugged but make sure that they are plugged in all the way.
I had the same exact issue you are describing once I had my GPU out for cleaning.
After putting it back in place everything was working fine until the moment I was trying to play a game.
Everytime it was crashing after a few minutes. When I unplugged and re-plugged the GPU, problem solved.

Nvidia have authorised a return, which is good news! Now the question I have from reading this thread is whether to return just one, or both. I was unaware that Founders Edition cards had a reputation (high Nvidia card costs have kept me in the AMD camp for the last half a decade), and there's a fair few people in the thread saying they're shit - is this actually the case, or is there some hyperbole going on and it's nothing that can't be solved by having a fan blowing on it? I still have my R9 280 to hand so I can easily pre-order an aftermarket cooler version if need be, but if it won't make that much of a difference/the FEs ARE fine, I'd prefer not to. Other than spending the rest of the day gaming to make sure all is well now, I think that's the last question that needs answering :)
