Unfortunately people get awfully brave and stupid when they talk from behind a keyboard. A lot of those (actually very few on this forum) who speak so condescendingly wouldn't dream of doing it in person.

To be fair, the thread has run it's course. It's a social question that has been answered many times over. Lost meanings, missed communication, keyboard aggression and hurt pride. Add that element of anonymity and people can come across as absolute shit bags.

This thread perhaps could be better enlivened on GN?

I'm a middle aged man who doesn't let people with little in the way of internet social skills (Or no social skills at all) get under my skin.
Been there, been flamed, been offered a punch up, walked away, etc.
In the real world I've only encountered that problem a couple of times.....In the school playground.

That one - no idea.
It came from a friend of a friend of another friend. With this chain of communication the first guy knows that I fix stuff, the next guy would hear that I'm the best, and the last one will be convinced that I'm a 49th level necromancer, who can revive laptops just by looking at them.
Most likely the guy got it for free in this condition (or f%^ed up and paid some cash) and now looks for someone to fix it, thinking that it will be cheaper than buying one.

I have seen a trend for some to get testy at posters, but I sure hope it wouldn't cause a long time member to just toss in the towel.

I'm sick of seeing this on these forums. You sit there and throw barbs at other forums while committing the very same acts as assbaggery you accuse them of.

You are knowledgeable, but you lack grace and wisdom. And this seems to be the case more and more on these forums. And I'm done on them. The bile and hatred spewed here on a daily basis by the "Superior ones" has convoluted and poisoned a once great place into a cess pool. It saddens me, but I guess the adage "All good things must come to end" rings true here just as much as any other part of life.

The one thing people on the internet fail to understand. If you don't have the proper knowledge to contribute, LURK MOAR! You can learn a thing or two if you just relax, get over yourself, and read. Watching the "dis gon be good" disputes are icing on the cake.

I will add to the OP, its worse than it was. There are whole groups of members that believe one of the major players in the hardware world is altruistic and cares about them, not profits. Words don't even describe my reaction...it mystifies me.

"one"???? How about the entire gaming industry be it software/hardware/or service is believed to be altruistic by these idiot fan boys. Every purchase made can only be justified by a scorch earth policy (in order for this to be great everything else must suck!) of fanboy-ism to the products/service you use. I don't get it, I work hard for my money. I make a purchase based on the performance for my hard earned dollar. After that there is no further relationship between myself and the company.

That said this one of the better forums, if you want to see a bad forum check out tomshardware. The moderators there are fanboy idiots. I've seen them suspend people for not agreeing with their views. I used to post in the PSU forum there around 2005-2009 when people actually discussed PSU rather then rushed to blurt out what they had in their rig could only possibly be used to power a PC. Too many recommendations of 600W+ power supplies that must be made by seasonic (even seen idiots bash seasonic OEMs not knowing how the industry works) to power rigs that would never even break 250w max while gaming drove me away. Oh and it must have Japanese caps! Japanese caps!...even if said Japanese caps are actually all made in China with Chinese material by a company headquartered in Japan.

The CPU/GPU forums over there are even worse.

Brand extremism is rife in every industry, and has simply gotten worse as the anonymous internet culture has become more lax.

We do hand out a lot of warning points these days. Incessant zealous tools get pistol whipped when they need it.

...but If I can't explain to people in an aggressive manner how my PC is faster then their PC based on some synthetic benchmark, how will they know I'm better then them???
