I barely game anymore, and Ryzen will definitely improve my crunching numbers, so I'll be getting a 1700 or 1700X system here in the next 2-3 months to upgrade my 3930k system with, and replace my 870 system with my 3930k system (mom uses my 870 system at her house as her PC under the condition that she lets it crunch).

Loving it. Should have gone with a cheaper 1700/b350 build but still for the money it's great. amazing workstation chip. makes it worth having a desktop again.

Fingers itching to upgrade an X5470 linux compiling box to R7 1700. However, really want the DDR4 issues figured out and the CCX performance hits explained. Hopefully, soon. Zen 2 is too far away.

I have a dentist appointment soon and there may be 2 or 3 more after that. My wallet will be sore for a while after that ordeal so i'll need some time to recoup before I go Zen unfortuantely. But I am going Zen, you can count on that. :)

I mostly play GoG and less demanding games, so my 3570k undervolt/OC isnt struggling in the least. I dont see much of a reason to upgrade, NVMe boot and more 3.0 ports are not needed right now, and I dont do much that needs more power.

Mainly bought it for faster rendering times, but I do game a lot. I love it! Excited to get more updates just keeps getting better. But for gigabyte it seems like I've been waiting forever for a good bios update, i just want to use the full speed of my ram :(. Great overall experience, I missed AMD

I've still to assemble my system (waiting on GPU and memory delivery) but I've read a few horror stories regarding the Asus Crosshair VI with BIOS bricks and memory issues. I've been very careful to buy the exact model of memory from the QVL list and will be sticking to 16GB. I'll try to run it at it's native 3200 speed, if I can't, I'll probably RMA the board and CPU and make a safer Intel purchase. BUT... I'm very hopeful that the people bricking the BIOS with memory issues are actually going well above the 3200 OC limit (I've been on forums reading people mentioning 3600 - which the board does not support.) Also people have been doing umpteen BIOS flashes and it all sounds a bit 'clumsy'. I'll be happy as a pig in poop if I can get my 3200 memory to run at that speed and get the 1700X to 4Ghz on all cores. Fingers crossed.

Now, where are them 1080ti's...

Id' change a bit one option:

I'm happy with my Intel processor
to
I'm happy with my current processor

I know in 90% of the cases is basically the same, but at least it doesn't force people to say that they are happy with Intel.
I'm not happy with my Intel but the performance it offers is sufficient enough so that I'll not invest my hard earned cash just yet.

still rocking my OC intel i5-2500 but Ryzen's budget friendly CPUs (1400 & 1500x or their 2018/19 replacements) will be of interest when the time comes

We still stuck in the Core time since 2005, I bought the Core i7 6700HQ to replace my desktop with laptop nothing else . I still see my core i7 3770k as a decent CPU I was planning on buy A GTX10xx for my desktop and keeping the Mobo/CPU but my travels forced me to buy a laptop as my main PC.
The point is I'll wait for a real performance leap like Athalon K7 over the Pentiume3/K6 and core2 over the Pentium 4/K8.

I'll be buying one to replace my FX-8350 in my server/encoding machine...once I can afford it.

Same, but the more I think about it, I may end up with the R5 1600x. I dont have a real need for 16 threads at home anymore now that I have a dedicated rig for vSphere.

I've already bought two x58 boards and two x5670 Xeon hex core chips (12threads) that handily break 4Ghz.

Those things at 4GHz still probably won't even hit the single-thread performance of an i5-7600K. Missing out on newer instructions, much better feature sets, etc. Won't even begin to mention OC'd power use. Ancient chips that are like 7 years old - it's like running a PIII in the Core 2 days.

Efficiency of silicon process aside... what instruction sets do you speak of?

AVX2 was one of them, but there was a few added in the sevens years or so since Nehalem. That said, even existing instructions have been improved since then.

I just bought an Aorus X370 Gaming 5 and I have an R7-1700X CPU coming soon.
I don't really ~need~ it but I think that it's important to support AMD's latest efforts.
It may not be the fastest Gamer I have, but it will be fine for me and my shooters.

What software do you use to render and why not using GPU accelerated?
Not all rendering/encoding software utilizes GPU acceleration. For example, my current favorite media transcoder software, XMediaRecode[ http://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/index.html ], does not. Others do and some are very good. But for CPU limited programs, CPU performance is the ultimate variable to factor into the equation of which parts to buy/upgrade in a system.

I love the idea of many cores, much threads, this is what makes me want a Ryzen still.
I managed to snag a cheap 8 core 16 thread Intel CPU, now I just have to find a cheap X79 board to put it in.

Yeah it does, i use it to convert my videos to H.265 (NVENC) and i see no loss in quality and its FAST. Like 300-400 FPS using a GTX 1070.
