Hey guys, so I have finally completed my build after asking a bajillion questions lol, well anyways I was wondering what are the max safe temps for the mosfets on the vrms?

According to hardware info 64 if I was reading correctly mine where running at 71 degrees c after running prime 95 for about ten minutes.

I went to microcenter and bought some heatsinks and applied them and I have attached before and after pictures with and without the heatsinks.

The motherboard im using is an msi 970 43g and the cpu is the fx 8320 and I want to overclock it to 4 ghz hence the cooler I bought but i don't want to burn up the vrms and destroy the board.

That board has a 4+1 phase VRM , I would NOT overclock any 8 core chip with it.

Ok so no ocing at all, well should I have any problems with it running stock? And for some reason the pics didn't upload correctly.

I generally recommend these kinds of boards for anything up to a 6 core FX. But if you haven't encountered any throttling by now , I'm guessing it's going to be OK . If you have installed those heatsinks make sure you have proper airflow in the case and you should be fine.

I have 5 case fans, i have done some gaming and haven't had any issues so far. Now what is the max safe temps for the vrms? I wish I was home so I could upload them, I am not sure if I was looking at the temps for the vrms correctly on hwinfo.

And what other temp monitoring software would you recommend? I also have speedfan but im also not sure how to read the vrm temps on there as well only cpu and gpu.

Most VRM's can reach temperatures of 100C+ , however this doesn't tell you anything since they can pop with just a little variation on that temperature limit. By the way are you sure that 71C reading isn't the CPU/socket temperature , I kind of have doubts that board can tell you VRMs temp.

The only accurate way to tell temps is a thermal imaging gun, or infrared thermometer.

I beg to differ, those need to be calibrated on a surface basis due to emissivity differences. K type Thermocouples and PT100 RTD's are the way to go regarding accurate temperature acquisition.

K, I'll rephrase that and add, "cheap way".

According to speedfan and hwinfo cpu was in the mid 50s under full load running prime 95 and low 50's when gaming I bought an aftermarket cooler the cooler master hyper t4 and im using artic silver 5 paste so my cpu seems to be good.

Those Flir android thermal imaging cameras will cost you way more than a digital multimeter with k type thermocouple reading capabilities (a thermocouple will cost you $10), if you want to go insane you can get a thermocouple datalogger with something like 8 thermocouple inputs + PT100 RTD inputs and pc conenction capabilities for a similar price of those flir android devices. Thermal imaging is good to get flashy pictures and a representation of the temperature distribution, if the emissivity of the surface is constant (which is not true for most pc components). A infrared thermometer is usually a waste of money. Sorry if I sound like I'm raging, but I work with this kind of things and I cant stand how people are fooled by those crappy thermal imaging devices.

Calling @Mr.Scott,

For your board see if you can direct fan the vrm circuitry. That's the only caveat is temps with that phase level.
