Keyboard & Mouse or Controller

I bought a controller (Xbox 360 - wireless) a couple of weeks ago. At first I said to myself, I'll only use it for third person games or driving games like Witcher 3, GTA V or Euro Truck Simulator 2. But now I am more and more fond of it and I started to use it even in first person shooters like bioshock infinte or far cry primal.

So I created this thread because I want to know what do you usually use for gaming on a PC? Do you prefer the controller, maybe from ps4 or steam, or keyboard and mouse.

P.S This thread is not meant for trolling or fighting between consoles and PCs.

I just use the 360 wired for driving in GTA V and mouse and keyboard for shooting. Bikes are much easier to use with the controller but the aiming is terrible with it.

I use only a wireless xbox360 if the game fully supports it.
I play GTA V mostly and it works very well for this game, but also use it for Dirt Rally and GRID series and more...

I do agree for accurate and fast aiming and shooting I'm better off with a mouse though.

I got the wired x360 controller and I use it mainly on driving/flying planes in GTAV and switch over to MKB when shooting and running around.

I also use the controller for platformers and jRPGs , sometimes fighting games but I now use my fight stick for those.

Hard to AP Pistol headshot cars when you are on a bike without using a mouse, but its hard to use a bike well with a keyboard so its hit or miss. Most people just use Karuma but where is the fun in that. I like using the Hakuchou. Throwing stickies off the bike is fun too.

Aiming is always terribly slow and clumsy on analog toggles. Kudos to the small percentage of gamers whom are good enough at aiming with them to not even tell in their video if they're using gampepad or KB/M, but IMO they're antiquated.

Quite honestly, I don't even like analog toggles for steering vehicles. Sure they are easier to arc turns with, but most AAA devs know of and use filtering algorithms to make the same possible with a KB, and KBs have faster response.

I just don't like that steering mistakes with analog devices take longer to correct, which has a domino effect. It really comes down with what you're familiar with or can adapt to though. Some that start out on pads never get used to KB/M.

*(IMO)*The only time you should be using a controller is for vehicle operation. For example I found that in battlefield 3, I was getting out maneuvered continually by other pilots,and after speaking to a couple people I found out they were using Xbox controllers only while flying. So i tried it, and sure enough it was a hell of a lot easier. It's the same thing with Grandtheft auto, or use it for vehicle operation. If you find yourself using a controller in any FPS you'll find yourself losing if you're playing against other players who use keyboard and mouse, that's not an opinion it's just a simple fact the latter is better than the former when it comes to accuracy and speed

The hard part comes when you're finding yourself having to switch between the two, anyone who does the same will read this & think "yeah me too" likely. Gets even worse when you have a headset on & the cords get all twisted up(imo wireless is junk, so all my devices are wired).

I use the Xb360 controller for racing games and 3rd person like Tomb Raider and walking around in GTA 5. My usage for GTA 5 in particular is interesting: I use XB360 controller to drive and walk around there, and when I know I could be shooting I switch to KB + mouse. When I drive and need to shoot, I also drive with keyboard while shooting with mouse. Shooting with XB360/controller for me is a no-go it's nowhere near as precise compared to a mouse.

That would make me rage. Then again, I've been playing shooters with keyboard and mouse since they came out so it's second nature to me.


The last game I played using the Xbox 360 controller was Assassin's Creed Rogue about a month ago.

Basically, I try to use the Xbox 360 on most games when I initially start it but the moment I have to aim at something, I'd grab the mouse. I think the game I played with the controller before ACR was Batman Arkham Knight. Whenever I was shooting at stuff with the Batmobile, I'd grab the mouse with my right hand to aim and shoot while holding the controller in my left hand for moving. Best of both worlds!


Note: I always turn auto aim garbage off in games. Fighting an auto aim literally fatigues my arm. Auto aim generally goes for center mass where I instinctively aim for the kill shot (head).
