Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
@GreiverBlade IF the Gaming X version was available at that time and cheapest you most probably would have bought it... :D:p
well it was available and the price difference was 50chf ... still i saw no advantage in taking the Gaming X over the Armor and your "owner thread" proved it to me :D thanks :p (except on vRAM OC but since i keep it at stock for now well ... that's minor  ) it's a wonder how it still get the same performances in OC while having 2 VRM/mosFET/caps and 1x 6pin less o_O

So the differences are going to be around 1-2 fps, so I should just choose the cheapest one?
Most likely, the cheapest one has the least features, the slowest clocks and the highest temperatures. Start with that and judge for yourself whether those features are worth the price to you. Backplate? (I thought backplates were a waste of money until I handled a GPU with one) Fans that turn off at idle? How loud are the fans?
MSI Gaming cards have had a very good reputation for a long.
Edit: I personally like the Gaming X over the Armor because I like quiet, but I don't see the benefit to the Gaming Z

dit: I personally like the Gaming X over the Armor because I like quiet, but I don't see the benefit to the Gaming Z
the armor feature the same stop fan tech and is also quiet, factory OC wise ... well yep it's lower ;) 1556mhz core but it can reach the same OC and boost as the gaming X temp wise no issues at all the TwinFrozr V is still nice compared to the VI

reviews OC result are not what the end user get  ;)

overall bench result, do you remember that i got a higher score with a lower core OC but a higher sustained boost? :p we both scratched our head over it iirc, wondering if it was the driver difference the culprit and i am still using ForceWare 376.53
but bench ... well these number do not matter :D if both card get the same result in day to day gaming, why taking the more expensive: that's what i thought when i decided for the armor :D (nonetheless i saw reviews over the net that placed the Armor 1 place above the Gaming X and that's also what decided me :D )

Anyways, at least we both do agree that a GTX1070 is a great card overall and it plays all games, even at stock (factory OC) speeds. :)

MSI has 13 models of the GTX 1070 alone! (and I think the list that I looked at is missing one, the DUKE model) 13! No wonder the OP is having problems choosing. IMHO, that's stupid, dangerous, and foolish. o_O:kookoo::banghead::twitch:

I think I made up my mind and will choose ASUS ROG Strix. Not sure if buying the oc version is worth it. But I figured that I'll go with ASUS since I'm having the Z270-A motherboard.
I also figured I'll get Phanteks Eclipse P400 case, so I figured I might actually start caring about the lighting
Now I thought I'll try to find a local shop that would offer me a decent price, but I'm not too hopeful about the results of my search

Be aware that the non-OC version of the STRIX will definitely limit the overall performance. Asus is a bitch like that, they limit your OC on the normal STRIX card.

Give or take 10% performance less than the 8G OC version.

My two cents: go MSI and dont look back. If you want the cheaper alternative take the ARMOR, if you want to go big take the Gaming X. The ARMOR does everything it should do and doesnt limit your OC.

You know brand loyalty hurts you, it always does. And Asus hasn't really been making waves to be honest, their warranty policy is crap and the way they handle RMA leaves something to be desired. So, consider that.

The RMA and warranty policy sounds disturbing. Does that mean I should change the mobo as well?

Don't you think spending the extra 49 bucks on a 1080 would be worth it over buying that card? I just can't see spending 450+ usd on a 1070.
dont you think that those extra pennies can buy maybe a year, a year that your video card performs great! still handle insane graphics and new games requirements, i remember when people said that GTX 980 was a waste of money for 1080, i can regret not even a second having this video card

Okay? I don't understand your question? I think you are saying a 1080 is a waste of money? But why didn't you buy a 970 over the 980? I'm just saying I'd spend the extra 49 bucks and buy a 1080. I seen a few 1080's for 479 usd which would be even cheaper..

The RMA and warranty policy sounds disturbing. Does that mean I should change the mobo as well?

Not at all, if it works well it works well and most motherboard/hardware issues do pop up right when you start using them. All I am saying is, MSI makes the better cooling solution today, STRIX is overpriced. And Asus should not be given the credit they built from ten years ago, treat them like any other big brand of today and drop brand loyalty, you'll end up with a better rig for the money ;)

I've gone with the MSI GTX 1070. It arrived just yesterday. Holy crap this thing is HEAVY. I've also decided I'm going to go with AMD Ryzen 5 1600, instead of intel i5-7600K.

I think you made a good choice!
Enjoy your new hardware and ofcourse enjoy your games once you've built your new rig!

Thanks, I'm getting Ghost Recon Wildlands with the GTX. I'm also planning to re-visit StarCraft and also maybe begin my adventure with Total War, with the Warhammer installment. Also, can't wait to check out Witcher 3 on Ultra level of detail :)
I'm really excited about the stuff I bought. I've never seen anything arrive as fast as that, I bought it on Wednesday at 3pm, and it arrived yesterday around 8am. Can't imagine it's going to be the new industry standard of delivery time in Poland though...
I've torn through the carton box, in which the hardware arrived like an ape, and ended up with paper cuts. I think now that ordering everything except the cpu wasn't a good idea, because now I've got to wait with all this shiny, new stuff till April the 11th....

I'm sure that the GPU would fit nice in your existing rig.

Very sensible choices for a strong long-lasting rig.

After that startup investment, whenever you now lack GPU perf in the future, sell off the 1070 and buy the follow-up same tier card = cheap upgrades :) That's how I usually roll ^^

And TW:Warhammer I can definitely recommend!
