My only contribution to the club was a pic of me taking some snuff. Ive smoked fags for years and fancied a change. I get strange looks on the bus but thats ok.....you cant use a vape on a bus but you can snort snuff 'til your hearts content.

I saw the content of the thread and it just wasnt my bag so i never went back. Im sorry if my snuff taking antics were in any way responsible for binning the club.

My take on the matter is this.

TPU council has made a decision. A big fat "NO" to 99% of club threads. The only exception of UK club thread which, by powers given to w1z, was spared.

So, no more club threads. Trying to gain support and oppose the decision - a day - after NO decision is irrelevant.

Wait around, let the decision be clouded in time. And then you gently bring it up again in a friendly matter - if you are still around -. Politics 101.

i really wish admins / mods could see how important vaping club was for some members and also see that club wasnt breaking any rule, tech related and most important thing, it was there helping some people with hardware and technology, also preventing people smoking and getting cancer, but well, its a free world , hope @W1zzard could give us at least a sign,

Where's the tech in "Black Holes" , "Distant Universe" , "Stars" , "Exoplanets" , "Dinosaurs" , just to name a few.......

Am I confused or is it you? We have been discussing clubs in this thread, not what is allowed in the science and tech section. I just looked at like the first 5-6 pages in the clubs section and I am not seeing anything to what you are referring in this post?!?!?

@sneekypeet Can we get a confirmation if clubs with a tech focus are still A-OK and perhaps a re-examining of the vape club due to the technology involved in more advanced vaporizers? Technology even if it is not computer related I feel should still be fair game in the scheme of things.

Was going to say something similar as my in-laws have been smoking for 20+ years and I am hoping to at least propose the idea of vaping to them in an attempt to help them quit (they have failed multiple times before).

Edit: Well damn you ninja'd above me as I tagged you sneeky.

For now the Vaping idea is a no-go. I can appreciate the tech mentality of it, but for everyone here who says Vaping is "good for you" I can easily find as many arguments against it. Medically speaking, not because you overpowered the system and exploded it.

In a nutshell. No more BS and keep it all things Tech.

And you replied:
Maybe, for now at least that is the call.

That's why I replied since Killerdroid mentioned "Keep it all things tech"

Put it in the science section and take out the word "club"....simple.

Plastic Eating Mushrooms wasn't binned

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/plastic-eating-mushrooms.222423/#post-3457302

In regards to vaping, you may discuss the science of it, but as soon as it turns into a how-to or a club-like atmosphere, it will be closed at this time.

@flmatter We discussed the anime club as well, and like the UK club it was allowed under the "grandfathered" aspect.

@P4-630 You quoted me and replied to him, strange.... but he is correct. In the club section, it must be tech related at this time, science and technology section is a bird of a different color which is not being discussed in this thread.

I'm disappointed with the overall decision on clubs given how the polls in this thread and my own show significantly more support for at least having a more open discussion and what seems to be a selective definition of what constitutes tech-related but oh well. At least we got some expanded responses that seem to show we were heard in the end.

As has been said many time, this is not a closed door. We are hashing out what to do behind the scenes. What I feel from this thread is that nobody cares why they were closed, or what has happened to TPU from the freedom you were given in one specific section. It appears that you all just want to attack the staff rather than helping to improve things on the whole, so we would be more obliged to feel your pain. Help us help you ;)

Unsure about helping to improve things on the whole but as for the clubs bit I did start kind of a tangent thread focused on suggesting ideas on how clubs could be handled differently as to not interfere with the main site and with no attack focus about the issue.

Discussing a shared interest is far from promoting anything. To my knowledge no one in the thread was advocating for non-smokers to suddenly start which is what you are implying it was doing.

will all necessary and truly respect... its not what you see or think about it ....... its a matter of rules, tech related, software what else its needed to get the club back since it wasn't breaking any rule... its like the delid dilemma we have around every cooling post, for some people its not good to do, but for others its like magic, the same its with vaping, some people claimed to be the glory and helped them with a problem, some others claimed dangerous, but it was created with that in mind, to share, contribute and give others a little knowledge that could help.... thats my point,

well i started this topic, not making a civil war, was created with the intention of seeing everyone elses opinion about some clubs... im truly sorry if this caused a problem for all staff, wasnt on my plans!

Right, but as I have said, the border is getting crossed. Members are getting all chummy with each other, so when one member runs amuck in a serious thread, there are 15 others who follow suit and derail them. Whether attacking the member, posting nonsense, or just talking to each other about things other than the topic has become a huge trend here. If we can get members to realize there is a place for fun and a place for serious faces, we would be more apt to allow the entire site to have that ability. Sadly though, too many times, we find that many members cannot tell the difference.

@peche You are well within your rights to gain the public response to this situation. I was not attacking the tech aspect of the thread, I am seeing it from the outside. Many posts were on topic, many posts were just showing off gear and what was bought next. There is also the fact that we do have impressionable members here, and for the same reason we do not allow p0rn, we have members who feel that discussing tobacco/tobacco replacement related things is out of place for this site as well.

You weren't. I read the thread. When you post photos of vapes and discuss how good they are, it makes kids more curious.
I understand what your saying however I feel given what seems to be at least the general demographic of the site children that would still be at that "highly impressionable" stage seem to be for the most part unicorns.

Would I be right in assuming that contributed in part to GN being moved off-site as a slightly more symbolic way of separating the atmospheres?
Edit: Wouldn't it also be more effective to allow the freedom of clubs and instead more properly differentiate acceptable and unacceptable behavior in certain areas of the site? Enforcing the rules as they are rather than removing a much liked aspect of the site seems a simpler choice. It seems that the club crackdown is more an attempt to place blame on clubs for the chumminess of certain users and the intentional de-railing by certain members who make such actions near habitual.

When you post photos of vapes and discuss how good they are, it makes kids more curious.

"kids" nowadays can find everything they want on the entire internet and that includes far worse things than just a vape thread...

What I feel from this thread is that nobody cares why they were closed, or what has happened to TPU from the freedom you were given in one specific section

Please elaborate

It has been said already. Allowing clubs has blurred the line to the rest of the forum, and having the chummy, anything goes posting ability on the club section has made its way into many a help thread. If you all were to see this aspect of it, and go through half the battle of cleaning up the messes and dealing with all of the hurt feelings as we as moderators do, it might be easier for you to grasp. TPU primarily is a tech forum where people come to help others! Yes, when I was new here we had GN, and it was a mingling spot, but when we wanted to go way off topic and just shoot the poop with each other, we ventured onto Voip service or text based chats.
