AMD has given its flagship Ryzen processor, the Ryzen 7 1800X, a small price cut. The chip is now priced at USD $469 on leading online retailers in the US, down from its launch price of $499. This $30 cut, however, isn't spread over to AMD's other Ryzen 7 series parts. The Ryzen 7 1700X continues to go for $399, and the Ryzen 7 1700 (non-X) around $329. Prices of the Ryzen 5 series six-core and quad-core parts seem unaffected, too.

AMD's flagship processor, the Ryzen 7 1800X features eight cores, SMT enabling 16 logical CPUs for the software to deal with, 512 KB of L2 cache per core, and 16 MB of shared L3 cache. It is clocked at 3.60 GHz, with 4.00 GHz TurboCore frequency, and XFR (extended frequency range) unlocking higher automated overclocks depending on the effectiveness of your cooler. The socket AM4 chip is built on the 14 nm process, and has a 95W TDP rating.

Either the 1800X was not selling as well as the 1700 and 1700X or they are making room for the upcoming HEDT platform's lower end CPUs supposedly coming at Computex.

Or they're making room for a Wraith Max-included SKU at $499.

OR they're trying to fill up the consumer demand hoping to choke the anticipated intel launch.

I honestly find this to just be a completely odd move. Sure it is overpriced compared to the rest of the line-up, but it's a Halo Product so that is expected.

My best guess is that the 1700X and 1600X are selling far better this month, although I do like the idea that are getting ready for the HEDT platform. But at the same time I don't expect Ryzen 12/16-cores until the August - October timeframe. But it would be cool if they came out sooner....

I'll buy that. They did recently mention they were prepping 1800X with Wraith Max coolers. I also believe 1700X as well, which if so why didn't they drop the price on the 1700X?

£100 for 100mhz isn't worth it. It would be different if it had 2 more cores but I figured the extra speed could be made up in OC. The 1700's were a far better value prospect, though i still think the 1800X chips were binned for the 4Ghz speeds.

Benchmark Scores I don't benchmark.
No matter what is going on. Its MUCH better that they are lower the price because of something related to AMD and not because Intel curb stomped your latest and greatest in every benchmark ever.

You shouldn't post such things. Too much logic.
Next time, try something like "Intel is still bestest" or "AMD rules".

Yes, I'm waiting Vega to build an all red.
In the meantime I'm writing from my 2012 Intel+Nvidia laptop.
Your comment is unnecessarly cocky.

The thing is AMD spun up the wheel and others are evidently reacting.
AMD is making their moves to counteract.
That's my view.
Have a nice day.

Sadly yes; and despite that, which was on purpose, neither you nor anyone else focused on said logical explanation, or (to push it further) what it could mean in terms of the future.
Making your response unnecessarily.. shallow.

That's my view.
Have a nice day.

1700x gets $100 off when bundled with any motherboard at Microcenter.
$369 for B350 Motherboard and Ryzen 1700x that's a pretty good deal if you ask me.
