RX 580 4GB, 1060 3GB or 2nd hand 290/970

GTX1060 3 GB ain't worth 210 EU, if you can get GTX970 for 150 EU, because there cards are equal:

Get GTX970, OC it and you will be able to get a second one if need be in the future. I have seen benchmarks where Evga GTX970 SSC even beats reference RX 580 in half the games, so a good OC on GTX970 will save you money.

Rx 480 ,its one for a while , especially compared to the others 290 defo gets pissed on by a 480 i swapped similar as does the 970 in reality once settings are pushed in some games , the 480 will maintain its performance at higher resolutions the others don't ,bar the 970 I've had them all too , I've been happy with my 480s.

I tested a 580 in superposition to verify it was in working condition (its going into the KReij memorial PC) and it barely beat out my 970 (oc'd ofc, but still a 3 y/o GPU @1200p & 1080p). so assuming a 480 is less than a 580, i have to guess that my 970 isnt much off from a 480, or better.

but in 2K and 4k test, the 580 crushed the 970.
my point being that a 480 cant be too much higher than my 970 f the 580 wasnt.
im far from a bench tester, and lack any such patience to do so, but thats what i experienced.

I did try running Grandtheft auto five and although frames per second werent much higher than with my overclocked 970 ,for some reason the game was much smoother . for what reason I don't know. As a Layman , I would have to say it was a much better gaming experience, although only for about 10 minutes

Frame buffer use and it seams you agree since i said the 580 is better when you consider higher resolutions and keeping games at very high and ultra ,i played doom at 4k with nightmare settings fine and perfectly smooth at 40 locked ish (no dipps)fps or 60/90 @1440pon one 480 since crossfire isn't supported and this also proves my better for the future.

Yes but only in part , your arguing that the 970overclocked is as good at 1080p as the 580 im saying yes but go a bit beyond that or to 1440p or 4k and its not close especially compared ingame feel(smoothness) ,the 580 is better.

With 580s i think some are later process , refined , higher clocking chips but essentially the same so there's also a lot of rebranded 480ish looking stuff again essentially, and in a good one ,exactly the same.

But that's literally what I said in my first post. Also you'll notice my first post wasn't in reply to yours but rather just a statement. I happen to actually have a 580 in my possession which I tested and was surprised by the minimal gains in performance ,while in synthetic benchmark ,as well as in gameplay of Grandtheft auto. But you'll also notice that I said once testing into K and 4K was done the performance gains became significantly more apparent.

Which is why again I ask if you do or don't agree with what I said ,because it seems like you're saying the exact same thing I did Just in your words

Avoid R9 200 series ... older, probably abused during use of the owner...

'll advise to get at least GTX 1060 6GB 9GBps version ... or any other green card, AMD cards always break my balls with something, reason why i stick with Nvidia...

I can appreciate that. Personally I have no preference in either direction I base it from card to card not brand to brand. But I will say even though the benchmarks didn't show huge gains, the smoothness of Grandtheft auto five on that 580 was spectacular. And I've had many AMD cards that I loved dearly

Anyway, AMD is better for the future, as already said here, and Nvidia is (way) more efficient. Both GPUs have its up's and down's and it's up to the user which up's he prefers.

I am considering upgrading my GPU and looking at the prices in NL and the ridiculous 2nd hand market I have narrowed down my choice to the following options:

• Sapphire Pulse RX 580 4GB for 220e
• 1060 3GB for 210e
• 2nd hand custom 290 for 125 euros
• 2nd hand 970 for 150e

What would you go with from these options?

RX 480 8 GB? Price should have come down on those because of the RX 580 8 GB models. RX 480 8 GB will beat all of the above.

GTX 970 second hand will be the most bang for the buck but that 3.5 GB effective memory is crippling going forward.

Even Kepler is still well supported so there's absolutely no problem ahead. Remember Maxwell and Pascal are almost the same architecture as in ~95%.
