Want to play Old Prey game, but activation server is defunct.

While waiting for the totally different new Prey game to arrive, I dug out my old Prey game and wanted to play it again. But the first thing I am asked is to activate the game with my activation code. No problem, right?
Well, it appears the activation servers are no longer in existence. Now what do I do? Any way to get around the missing activation server?

If I legally owned the game, I wouldn't feel bad downloading the pirated version, in order to be able to play it.

I wouldn't know where to begin to look for a pirated copy nor if I could trust it being safe. And yes, my copy is legal.

Hm, I've played Prey like a month ago and it worked just fine (I have a retail DVD). Make sure to install latest patch.

EDIT:
Btw, Prey 1 doesn't use online activation. The CD KEY is a local thing afaik. make sure you don't mix up numbers and letters, like "O" and "0" (zero).

I already have tried that link. Most of that stuff is not working any more. I already have the latest patches. And the secure rom removal file I also have, but it demands that the game be activated first.

I have a downloaded file that I burned to DVD from https://www.gamersgate.com/index.php
I used to have the original retail DVD, but it got damaged.
How did you get past the activation server that isn't there any more?

If you can blur out some digits that may. Was only seeing if you had a legitimate copy or something from an illegal site. Normally illegal sites don't work well.

Learn a lesson about "buying" stuff that requires online activation: you're really only renting the thing.

On the other hand, I remember the original Prey was a thorough flop, so I'd skip playing it altogether.

This is a fine example of exactly what's wrong with DRM, especially the online kind.

I'm sorry bud, I tried looking at www.gog.com and Steam, but couldn't find this game to allow you to buy it again. I know, buying it again to get around an issue they put in sounds wrong and it is. Don't get me started on DRM...

On the other hand, the new version will be out on Steam on the 5th, if you want it.

Been there, done that. I've come to the realization that the activation code I have is different from the one that the retail version needs anyway. I tried RejZor's link and ran it. It asks for a different code in the text box. I recognized that text box from when I had the original retail version. It requires fewer digits and a 2nd entry. So I can see this is a waste of time. I'll look around ebay for a retail version if it is cheap.

Sometimes you can find brand new games that are older or amazon.com

You might want to try Amazon or eBay. Here's the listing for used copies on Amazon UK, for example. Clearly still available and is pretty cheap.

Yup my new DVD of COD MW2 (COD5) had pegi status on it vs esrb, so it was an international version, lucky steam supports it. I even used gcw so i don't need a disk inserted

Thanks, but I no longer have the original retail pkg. with my activation code. I tossed it when I found this download version online years ago. Dumb, huh?
