Can you flash Gaming X+ Firmware onto a standard Gaming X Card??

Hi,

I have a MSI 1060 Gaming X video card and was wondering if its possible to flash the firmware of a similar MSI 1060 Gaming X+ card onto it? Only difference is that ram runs at 9000mhz vs 8000mhz on the Gaming X+ vs the Gaming X card. I've heard of certain 1080 GTX cards being upgraded from 10000mhz to 11000 mhz via firmware update from companies like EVGA so was wondering if this would work. Obviously I would need a copy of the MSI Gaming X+ 1060 firmware first so if anyone has one to share..

Thanks

Different stock keeping units and part numbers is what determines the difference in bios codes to different components and ram.

Try afterburner, if it fails at those speeds even with voltage boost your card just can't hit those speeds and a bios flash won't change that.

It is not recomended to do such unless you know what you are doing and acknowledge the consequences. So would you rather brick a board over stupidity or just get a 1070?

Don't waste your time on this.

Would do it out of boredom and curiosity. Its not like I would be taking chances on a 1080. First I would need to know the exact part number of the samsung ram on that card and see if its the same as mine. If it is that means they have just changed the latencies and voltages to allow the higher ram overclock. So far I'm at +500 mhz anyhow. I know its safer to use just afterburner.

Thanks

Buy one then
after you have checked what you want Go ahead and Flash the Bios on your Card
At least then you got something to run if you brick/damage it

The GPU number is different, GP106-410-A1, compared to the older GP106-400-A1.
Apart from that the only difference I see is the memory clock running at 2256MHz as opposed to 2002MHz.
As long as the ram is compatible you could try a flash as long as you remember to back up the old BIOS.
