Just got my Asus strix OC 1080 TI yesterday and have recorded some temps for all of you. So far it idles about 50-52°c and when benchmarking sits at 59-60°c. I haven't seen it go past 60°c.

For this if you that are wondering that is a Rosewill Thor V2 case that I have changed a few things on.

I don't have a temp gauge in the RV but the thermostat looks to be about 71-72°F. I pulled the temp gauge out of the fridge so I'll give you an exact temp in a minute. Lol

In the RV..nice!

Benchmarking lasts a couple minutes... what are load temps after gaming for 30 mins?

+62mhz GPU boost clock
100% voltage
+550mhz memory clock (can go higher)
Power target set at 120%
GPU temp set at 90°c
Custom fan profile set to go 100% at 67°c and 36% at 56°c

Why is the fan profile set so steep?

No real reason. This card doesn't go over 60°c so if it's going to get close to 70 there is an issue so it's set to 100%

For all you anti GPU fan lovers. I adjusted all my case and GPU fans last night. My front case fan has quite an audible hum so it doesn't matter if its running fans on or not. I can't hear the GPU fans until it's set to above 60%. So I have it set at 50% right now, and the reason is lower temps. My ambient is 21°c and with no GPU fans spinning at idle on the stock profile it idles at 50-52°c which is 30-32°c over ambient. With the fan profile I have now and case fans adjusted it now idles at 30-31°c! That's only 9-10°cover ambient. For me temps are what matters most. Now if I had quieter fans and a case with sound dampening it may be different but I don't. For fans running on the GPU now that I still can't hear and to knock 30°c+ off at idle is a drastic improvement in cooling. During benchmarks the custom fan profile only kept it about 3-5°c cooler than stock but that's during benchmarks not games so I'll look at going temps today. Whether you plan to make a silent PC or one focused on cooling you can't go wrong with this card. To each his own and this card does both.
I'm curious to know if the people that have commented what GPUs do you own and what are your setups?

I've been playing ghost recon wildlands for 30 minutes or so now and with the fans set as mentioned above along with the case fans in harmony I've been sitting at 31°c during gaming. It hasn't budged from it's idle temp!!. They only thing that has increased by 5-10°c is my CPU temps and that's it. I'm a happy gamer right now. Now to add some sound dampening material to my case. Possible even a custom cover for the front of the case that can be dampened but still allow air through. Then again I'm used to gaming with this thing down on the floor not right next to me like it is now.

Lol..never left idle ehh?

How about you record the temperature with msi ab...have it running before you game, then look at max temps after...

Lol... never left idle while playing a 3d game...

As in the temp did not change. It was idling at 31°c and did not change while playing wildlands. It didn't budge. I have 4 230mm fans in my case and 2 140mm fans one as a rear exhaust fan and one on my CPU cooler. 5 of them are BitFenix Spectre pro fans and the other is a stock rosewill 230mm case fan that I just installed in the front.

IMG_20170507_100048.jpg

That was 30 minutes or so of gameplay.

The info is accurate, believe it or not these are verifiable temps in my case with my setup. Yours may vary. I'm running dual monitors right now so I can monitor everything as I make adjustments.

Id like to see screenshots of the graph in msi ab showing it never went idle yet you ramped up to 3d clocks and played games. What you showed displays the CURRENT temperature.

I havent used speedfan in over 10 years.. lol! Put your listening ears on, use a modern program, namely msi ab, which records temps... and show the graph and max temps along with the clockspeeds.

I dont know why you care about temps... i care about relatice quiet. There is zero...ZERO need to run things that cool. None. Zip... naaaaada. Im mean, to each their own, but, you dont get a cookie even for low temps... ;)

idles at 30-31°c!
So I have it set at 50% right now, and the reason is lower temps. My ambient is 21°c

31 idle is still warm for 50% fan speed at 21 ambient IMO.
My 1070 runs at 25-26 idle , the 2 fans @ 40% speed, 20 ambient.

Or it must be that a 1080Ti just runs warmer overall, could be....

Those are good idle temps! What case and fans? The 1070 I had didn't idle anywhere near that.

i mean... science... unless your fans are cranked already, amd even then, when you load the gpu it uses more energy and outputs more heat. For it to not budge is nearly impossible on air. The cooler isnt that good unless its some web based 2d game where the card isnt even ramping up to 3d clocks...

Idle at 36c without fans with 1080ti gaming x...22c ambient. With stock fan profile it hits mid 60s and i cant hear the fans.. perfect. Zero effort. Perfectly acceptable temps with plenty of headroom... i want my cookie for not doing squat and still having my hearing!!!

A be quiet! 140mm fixed @900rpm front intake, CPU fan 120mm scythe at fixed ~1150rpm, top exhaust scythe 120mm @ fixed ~700rpm, back exhaust be quiet! 120mm fixed ~1130rpm.
Nothing special...
Also have a noctua 140mm at the bottom but I unplugged it since it makes my system noisier, maybe I use it again when it's hot in the summer.

My case is a noise insulated Be Quiet! Silent base 600.

Again believe or don't believe it I don't really care dude. You've gone out of your way to disprove all this shit. I've ran the programs and seen the "charts" on my PC running and recording while playing. Speed fan displays my case fan speeds which I have verified as accurate along with GPU temps and CPU temps across multiple programs including, realtemp, hwmonitorpro, Asus GPU tweak II, Asus AI suite II. speedfan is accurate. Sorry I don't use the programs you use!
