When you open hwinfo64, click sensors only, and it should bring up a huge list of voltages and temperatures. At the bottom there's a page with a plus symbol that says 'logging start' when you hover the mouse over. Tell it where to safe the csv file and run prime95 again for a couple of minutes, stop the log and upload it here :) That should give us all the info we need to narrow down the problem.

Edit to reply to your last post: psu doesn't cause cpu to overheat, and your cpu getting to 74c isn't the problem, it's something else most likely. Edit2: A bad psu will cause it to shut off there's too much load, or if one of the voltages drops too low.

Just to be clear, your cpu is not overheating. 74c is more than fine for a Lynnfield cpu. It'll run up to 100c before it throttles, if it still cannot maintain sub 100c when throttling it will shut off.

Wow it's taking long to heat up now since it's starting to get cold outside

Also thank you all very much to putting some time into helping me out

It's not letting me upload it cuz it's a .csv
edit: are you guys still there?

Just change.txt back to .csv

Also i think the water cooling is MAYBE a Corsair H50
it has the same looking heatsink but the block is square not circular

So is it because it's a crappy psu or underpowered?
It is an 80+ bronze
Are you sure about that?
According to their website neither the old, nor the new version, are certified in any way.
Not even the basic 80Plus. The specs are also really poor, with the OUTPUT(Max) being 400W.
Recommended PSU for a 7970 is at least 500W. So get a quality unit, Corsair, SuperFlower, EVGA, Seasonic, Enermax,…

Oh ok then i was lied to the place i bought it from said it was a 550w

Now that i look closely i see that it is 450w peak output 580w

Why does my one look black but the one on the website is silver/grey

EDIT: nevermind

Ok, looking through that lot your cpu is all good, vcore, temps etc are all fine.
PSU voltages do look suspect, although sometimes it isn't read accurately. 3.3V is a smidge low but not too bad at 3.25v, 5v is quite low, dipping 4.78v quite often, 12v rail looks on the high side, but not far off (12.3-12.4v). +5VSB is all over the place but looks like a bad reading as it sometimes goes to 0.

Even if voltages are good you could be getting some nasty ripple voltage or something that we cant check for unless you have an oscilloscope kicking around?

Anyone else spot anything in the hwinfo log? I changed it to an excel file for convenience.

Software can't read voltages very well. It says 3.25V on the +3.3V rail but it could very well could be 3.1V or so. Same with the rest.

Need to check with multi-meter to really know.

I don't even know what an oscilloscope is

So what's the verdict? new psu? or just normal overheating?

Straight from the site:

AC INPUT VOLTAGE CURRENT FREQUENCY
230V 4.0A 47-63Hz
DC OUTPUT +3.3V +5V +12V -12V +5VSB
CURRENT(Max) 16A 16A 34A 0.5A 2.5A
OUTPUT(Max) 90W 400W 6W 12.5W
TOTAL OUTPUT 450W
PEAK POWER 580W
i would take a picture but it's too dang dark

You could underclock and undervolt the cpu & gpu and see if that does anything for you.

One last question why is it that i can put it on max load when its cold and it goes on at temps below 70 and lower temps
Yeah kind of weird....maybe the PSU fails when its warmer or maybe a bad cap on the mobo....how old is your stuff?

EDIT you better learn to use the edit button on your triple posting or a mod will talk to you about it.

Ignore bad cable management i can't put cables at the back of the case , it bulges too much

So you guys think it's the PSU?

any other suggestions for testing

The board has polymer capacitors so there won't be any bulging one's.

but I bet it is the PSU when HOT
Yes, this is probable it doesn't mention the operating temperature range on the label, so it's likely <40C @ load. A decent PSU is rated at least +40C @ Max load, good ones are +50C, It'll say this on the label somewhere.

Edit: That is the ambient temperature range that the PSU will operate properly at, not the maximum temperature of the PSU BTW.

So a +50C psu will reliably output it's rated power in ambients in excess of 50C.
