Windows 10 64 bit home won't install (screen cap of error)

This is a fresh install on a 500GB Samsung 960 EVO NVMe drive.

Even though I only took the 1 screen cap I tried the format selection, making partitions of various sizes (I even partitioned it right down the middle and tried installing on both) and using those to no avail.

Please help

The issue is the media. Remake the flash drive.

It's a DVD, you're saying unplug the other HDDs?

yes, its one or the other. The error specifies the media is bad, but the error also happens when other drives are plugged in. like @jboydgolfer said. Unplug all other drives except the one you want to install windows on and try again.

I think you need to make a UEFI bootable USB drive to install on an NVMe drive. Also make sure you set up your UEFI to support boot from NVMe, or it won't work properly. This should be done before you boot up the USB drive. Installing on NVMe is not like installing on SATA.

Also, are you trying to install Windows on that drive in a PCIe slot in your current board? If so, forget about it, it's not supported.

ive had this happen 50 times installing windows(my aging brain :rolleyes:

). Just remove all but the OS drive, you'll be fine. (No i dont mean the Optical Drive) this works every time under the assumption the install media is viable.

Ugh, thanks for the link. The MB does allow for bootable NVMe so there's that, but unfortunately it's gong to be a headache for me to make/download a bootable USB drive... don't even think have one big enough here.

This helps prevent windows from putting files on other drives relating to the boot process too lol.

@Hotobu Do what Solaris and jboyd are advising you and let us know how you get on. I've seen things like this myself.

It's true that leaving other drives attached can cause the boot process to be split idiotically over a couple of drives, let alone fail like this.

Also this. Installing on a regular drive and then migrating over with the right drivers in place might work though.

ive had it go ALL the way through the process, Look like it was all good, but "no boot media" after reboot

.or it acts like there are no viable HDD's ,or SSD's, and many more absurd errors when it Wants to....Good 'old windows install... :rolleyes:

You can disable SATA ports in the motherboard uEFI then do the Windows install without having to physically unplug the drives.

Physically uninstalling is no problem since I just had to pull one cable from a modular PSU. The problem now is that I don't have an 8 GB flash drive to download Windows onto as apparently NVMe needs a bootable USB to install from. I ordered one from Amazon

Have any retail stores nearby? Shouldn't have to much trouble tracking down a 8 GB flash drive.

Edit: Have any Micro SD/SD cards that are 8 GB?

Not in low level environments I don't believe, I don't think you can use s phone as a boot device, as when you plug in a phone a driver gets installed or you have to install a driver first

To be honest, I haven't installed Windows from a disc in years, so it might still work.
Found this over at Dell - http://www.dell.com/support/article...install-with-nvme-ssd-and-sata-drives?lang=EN
It proposes that there's an issue with Windows 10 and that if you have a mix of NVMe and SATA drives, you need to disable the SATA drives or you can't install on the NVMe drive.

Also, if you a "CSM" option in the UEFI, disable it, as it messes with NVMe drives.

Thanks for this. Disabling CSM is what did it... ugh, it would have taken me forever ti figure that out.
