connection problem

Hi hopefully it's something simple my grand daughter computer was working last night but when she turned it on it says no hdmi signal, it is connected through the dvi cable, any ideas.

okay....your getting "no hdmi signal" but your using a DVI connection and that is exactly why your not getting a signal. HDMI and DVI are two DIFFERENT CONNECTIONS! Set the monitor to DVI input instead of HDMI and welcome to TPU :lovetpu:

EDIT: just wondering, was this a test trick question because it sure seems like it.

But the system isn't turning on it sits with the ( no hdmi signal), sign and if I reboot it I just get the same sign come up.

So when you press the power button to the PC no fans spin and no error beeps?Does the Mouse light up?

We need more details please. Some pictures would help as well.

With such few information at hand it's impossible to tell what is exactly causing the problem - one can only guess at best which would do nothing but waste the time of anyone willing to help.

ALSO YOUR MONITOR SHOULD NOT BE SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT HDMI .....It should be saying NO DVI CONNECTION....I still think the monitor being selected to the wrong connection is the problem at this point with the information given.

DING DANG go into the MONITORS menu and select DVI for the input.

EDIT: Give me the make and model of the monitor and I will find instructions on how to select DVI input.

As @DRDNA said, you need to switch the signal input to DVI on the monitor. The monitor should have physical buttons to access the OSD in order to switch inputs.

Or is your grand daughter's PC connected via a DVI to HDMI converter?

Nothing Stupid like monitor cable came off and it was refitted to the motherboard connector instead of the graphics card ( it happens )
