Okay guys need some help here before going crazy...
I am trying to setup a remote desktop connection and see exactly what the logged on user is looking at with out going through Windows Remote Desktop.

Since its local network I don't have any password or want to setup a password.

Any suggestions are appreciated

RDP is easy to setup but you need access to the PC you want to RDP to so you can enable the feature. You need to have login credentials to initiate an RDP session according to the requirements for RDP.

Depending on if it is domain joined or not will also have a small effect...I'm assuming it is not domain joined in this situation.

RDP by default locks a user's session and starts a new one. IF you log in as that same user, you'll lock them out of their own session, thus taking over and seeing what they're looking at. They can also log back in and kick you out.

If you have administrative rights to the PC, you should be able to enable and connect using Microsoft Remote Assistance. I believe you can download MSRA from here, set it up and that will give you access similar to Teamviewer, VNC, ScreenConnect, LogMeIn, etc. where you are viewing the same session as the user physically at the console.

Otherwise, you might look at Teamviewer, VNC or Google Remote Desktop as alternatives.

Thank you so much. I prob was losing my mind and getting frustrated over thin air
I've tried the Microsoft RDP and google remote desktop wasn't a huge fan of it, and might give Teamviewer another try. I just found Remote Utilities right now trying it out

I love RDP, I use it as my primary remote option for my personal gear and lab. But I don't need to be on the same session as my family members. RDP is lightweight and effective from a management standpoint.

Teamviewer, VNC, Google RD, etc. are handy as well, but come at various costs, both financially, system-load, management-wise, etc. I use Teamviewer free is my backup remote access to some items, also using 2FA login. At work we ditched TeamViewer for ScreenConnect which I also like quite a bit...but it isn't as convenient or usable for home users as Teamviewer is.

Might as well try a few of them and settle on the one that suits your needs the best. Let us know what you end up choosing! :toast:

Thank you so much! this is totally helpful! I use RDP at work don't have any issues since everyone can have their own little sessions. at my home office I want to keep it in one session.
I'll give teamviewer a try tomorrow when i get home for sure.
