Yeah, because i'm finding the 580 bios to make my 480 run much cooler and power comsumption is lower too, but the idle wattage is bothering me, too bad i don't have a watt meter to test, because if this happens maybe the lower power comsumption can be "bugged" too and reporting lower when maybe its the same as the 480 bios or even temps might be wrong

This was one of my concerns. Ports were reported as not working, who knows if the sensors are working correctly as well. Also memory readings seem to not be working correctly (maybe needed to restart the system or something). I hope someone try reading the voltages with a meter, but the time for that may be passing with new cards and other interesting things to do on the horizon.

Try looking at overclockers.net there is thread dedicated to Polaris Bios editing and all the concerns on voltage are subject of recent discussion.
Some folks made custom 480 to 580 conversions.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1604567/polaris-bios-editing-rx5xx-rx4xx check last pages.

Btw. Update on my strix 480: card was fixed back to stock 480 however it doesnt want to work on my PC. It works however on shop's PC where it got fixed. So whole rig went for checking now.

Thank you so much for this link. This bios edit thing is so interesting. The conversations going on in that thread could keep my glued to the screen for days. With the information I saw, and taking careful consideration I went ahead and flashed up to 580. It went well, and my memory no longer get errors like crazy above 2000. I was going to try the straps thing first but I need to read up on it some more. AMD overclocking is so interesting, with Nvidia I just boop and beep and I stop.

This is what sold me.

hellm, pardon me for this was probably discussed thousands of times, but..
what are the advantages of using a 580 bios on my red dragon 8gb rx 480, assuming that the 580 bios is 1350/2000mhz and that I could reach this clock with stability without flashing the bios? Any performance/stability/temp gains?

Ty!

the power management is way better and more mem oc stability. it's an update, amd should have done that to the 480 a long time ago.

I wish the vendors would just put out bios updates like motherboard manufacturers do, but they would probably be more interested in selling the newer cards.

I have flashed my XFX GTR 480 (8GB) with this 1366 XFX 580 bios. Everthing works fine and stable and i have not encountered any problems benchmarking or playing. However: when i power up my pc for the first time of the day i recieve a blackscreen. if i wait 1-2 minutes and reset the pc, i get the monitor signal again and the pc boots into bios (automatically). After that i can start windows normally and everything works fine again. Even when i reboot now, it will start without any problems. Its just the first start of the day that seems to cause problems. I have not read anything about a similar case, can someone elaborate on what might cause the issue here?
my rx would rund stable at 1411 on the 480 bios, so i do not think the higher standard clocks of 1366 cause the problem here.

I have an Asus Strix RX480 flashed into an Asus Strix RX580 and it has been running stable since 23rd April until today.
I didn't touch the RX580 Bios, it's all default from factory.
My room temperature is around 25/ 26ºC at the moment.
Using this card:

GPU-Z reads:

I had this happen before ... Try resetting WattMan to defaults, then uninstall AMD driver and what ever software you use for overclocking the VGA (Afterburner, etc..) then reboot. Reinstall AMD drivers and then reinstall you overclocking software. That should fix the "Bug" ... it did for me. GL

Did you uninstall the AMD drivers before you flashed the card? The old settings from the old bios may still be saved in the driver. Following a warning I saw for SRBPolaris (a bios editor) I uninstall the drivers before I flash. It makes the process longer but I'd rather be safe.

"IMPORTANT!
Before flashing the modified bios (especially if you changed voltage), use DDU to remove your video drivers, and clean up settings that could interfere with the new settings in the bios."

Intresting, no i unistalled the drivers with DDU after i flashed. How can they be stored in the driver if i uninstalled it afterwards with DDU in safe mode? I will test it out later today, thanks for the tip!

What man can sore settings elsewhere to use on boot but ddu worked for me, i just reflashed to custom 580 bios with modded time straps , running very well. Best timespy is now 7371 with 200cpu mhz in my pocket so all in happy ,drivers installed without issues too.
I flash
Wipe drivers with ddu
Uninstall any oc software
Reboot
Installed drivers an oc software , no issues.

I've saw every BIOS but there isn't any RX 580 4GB BIOS with SAMSUNG memorys like my 480 4 gb samsung memorys, because every RX 580 BIOS I saw was elpida and/or hynix

Well, now that you mention it. I did the same steps as you did minus uninstalling afterburner. That might be the issue here...

have read some comments, this makes me think about some evil plans... but i rather to ask, is there any Bios trick confirmed for Radeon R9 270 OC? i have one in my hands right now, its being installed on a friend rig, but if we could upgrade the video card will be a decent upgrade...

i havent seen anyone mess with the bios of such a card , after that gen trinidad was released to replace it but hey that could have just been a name change for the r9 370 maybe that or the 360 bios might suit but its likely to be a crapshoot as to which one.

Finally, my 2 cents...

I managed to flash my Sapphire 480 Nitro+ OC 4GB with original 580 Nitro+ 4GB BIOS (taken from here https://anorak.tech/t/sapphire-rx-580-nitro/5017). Tested for like 5 min in Witcher 3 and saw max temp 76'C, clocks stable at 1411 MHz, no throttling. Will do longer session tomorrow :D

[EDIT] My ASIC quality is 80.9%

Card run smoothly. The best thing is to achieve 1400 MHz clock on original BIOS I had to set up +50% to power limit and add +72 mV to VCore, which was causing 85*C with fans @100%... Now it is "only" 1150 mV on core (default 580 VCore) and temps in Witcher 3 maintain below 78*C with fans @70% = MAGIC, if you ask me ;)

did you try flashing using the rx580 flash files found on the first page? grab the rx580 flash file rar on the first page and follow the ops instructions to flash the provided rx580 bios.

Now for flashing the card i attached the version of atiflash that i used and included it as a rar. you will need to extract the folder. afterwards all you need to do is right click "BIOS FLASH" and run it as administrator. if this does not work than run it by just double clicking. it should update your card with the new bios. if this still does not work, open "ATIFLASH" as admin and leav it open, dont press anything! Now open "Bios Flash" regularly by double clicking or enter. this should do it.

i feel very stupid :) can't find the files you mean. Please put a link to the files you said.

edit: i tried editing the sub and subvendor IDs from the 580 limited edition with the same from my 480 original bios. could flash now, but my card is now identified as "standard vga card" lol, ok, dont work.

you need to install win rar in order to extract it. i hope that you know what you are doing. please re read the first post on page one to get an understanding on how to flash your card. you need to make sure that you have good temps and get everything stable.

good luck

If you check the sensor page does it say the Memory controller load is at 100% when idle or not I have the same card but the 8GB version once I flashed it with the 580 version my memory controller now states it is at 100% in idle used AIDA and GPUz and both say the same thing 100%
