Weird CMD windows popping up

I was wondering whether anyone has any ideas as to how I can find out what's going on.

When using my computer, I keep getting (every 30 mins or so) windows popping up and disappearing a millisecond later. I'm pretty sure it's not my imagination as It brings me out of full screen, if I am playing a game. I think they are command prompt windows, but I can't be sure as it closes so fast.

Does anyone know a way to track what windows have been launched? I was thinking I might be able to use Fraps or something similar to make a video and go through it frame-by-frame, but I'm hoping there's an easier way.

I have Kaspersky AV and Mlwarebytes on my computer and am hoping something hasn't gotten past them (both scan as clean)

Play windowed and then you'll see.

I have a similar issue in two computers (except I am not being kicked off games) but I am using insider builds as you said you will need to record your desktop until you get the window then play and stop to see the window name which will usually show the application name

Check Task Scheduler to see if something might have been added to run at any given time.

Can you easily duplicate it?

Are you able to take a screenshot or record a video as @natr0n suggested?

Check Programs and Features to confirm you're aware of all installed software and packages.

Check Event Viewer as @natr0n suggested as well.

I'll check the event viewer. I've seen it pop up when just web browsing, it's literally a fraction of a second, like subliminal. If it wasn't for it taking me out of games, I might just think I was seeing things, but I've noticed it at least 5 times now.

I loaded up GMER for a root kit scan and on startup, it said it found some changes. It went for a full scan and then blue screened.

On restart, it's not giving me the same message, but I'm putting the computer though a full scan. I'm doing a kaspersky scan too. If they come up clean, I'll try a rescue disk scan just to be sure.

Yup , I have that too. No clue what it is. For me it dose not appear in a game or a full screen application. I think it might have something to do with a windows update since this started to happen after one.

I can't replicate it. It seems to be coming up at random times. I went thru my services and disabled a couple of things that I didnt want running and uninstalled OpenVPN that I installed yesterday.

I went through the event log, but couldn't find much apart from the crash, a call to something that wasn't present.

Got another German crash, but no blue screen. I think that even if I don't find anything, I might just do a full reinstall. It's been a a long time and my computer has been misbehaving in other ways.

Process Explorer

Leave it running in the background. It will track everything running on the system, but when a process closes Process Explorer highlights it red and leaves it visable for awhile. So when the window pops up, switch over to Process Explorer quickly and see what is red before it disappears.

I had this as well. Whatever process is launching it is quitting very soon after as I saw nothing out of the ordinary. I think it's a Windows Update and in my case, a single reboot fixed it.

Thanks for the tips, process explorer is probably the easiest one to try next.

I'll see if it happens again at all today. I'm hoping it's just a WU like with you guys

id DL Process explorer anyway, IMO/IME it is better than task manager, so i use the "replace task manager" option with it to replace windows default one.
