Critically Acclaimed Warhammer 40,000 Franchise to Make Handheld Debut

AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2007--THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced Warhammer(R) 40,000: Squad Command(TM) will bring the carnage of the 41st millennium to the popular handheld Nintendo DS(TM) and PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable) systems, scheduled to be released in fall 2007. Taking full advantage of the unique capabilities of the Nintendo DS and PSP, Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command features a new and immersive single-player campaign, along with a robust global multiplayer component.

"Bringing the Warhammer 40,000 universe to handheld systems creates exciting new game play options for fans across the globe," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ. "An all-new single-player storyline and the ability to battle head-to-head with anyone in the world make this an exciting addition to the Warhammer 40,000 library."

About Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command marks the first time the brutal, war-ravaged world of Games Workshop's (LSE:GAW) Warhammer 40,000 universe will be playable on the Nintendo DS and PSP. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command features action-packed combat and turn-based strategy through an engaging, authentic single-player storyline. Gamers play as the elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the daemonic forces of Chaos through 13 cinematically-tied missions. With a robust multiplayer mode featuring nine unique missions, gamers will team up to go head-to-head with other players worldwide as either the Imperium of Man or Chaos, ensuring hours of replay ability. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command will also fully utilize all the portable functionality of the PSP and Nintendo DS, including the dual-screen and stylus.

The DS port makes me laugh. Even on the PSP I wouldnt play it.
Unless of course, its not just a silly port that fits on a console, but not on a handheld.
If they actually create a new game that fits handhelds, or at least change it sufficiantly, then maybe the PSP version will be decent.

Maybe u should change the title of the news story.
There is already a Warhammer PSP game, but its not very good. The new game is a Warhammer 40,000 game, which apperantly is a strategy game (unlike the first?), so maybe it will be better.

I agree. I imagine that the touch screen would make the gameplay very interesting! But I wont ever buy a DS, honestly. But I do plan on getting a Wii!

I would like to see something this brutal and violent on the DS. I'm tired of playing only kid friendly games. I'm an adult, cater to my demographic Nintendo of America!!
