Hi,

I recently updated to windows 10 from 8.1
my specs are under my profile.

I am using a Logitech G400.

Note that, I did not have issues before all the windows updates.

It started with freezing every definite amount of time like 4 second gap. I saw that Logitech has brought out a new driver in mid June, and it seems to make it a bit better. Still it came back after some time.

I have disabled the Windows Update service since it always tries to download chunks when i am gaming. Not sure if this is related to that.

I have run stress test on CPU, FPU, RAM, GPU , HDD all of them to emulate the kind of freezing i get, but it seems its not hardware related.

Finally fedup of curzor lagging every few seconds i decided to try USB 3 port. That did the job, but after some time the mouse starts freezing again, this time at random intervals.

I have noticed it goes up when i am playing Minecraft. I have Java 10.* installed.

Please help :(

i tried removing realtek audio as well, but that did not help.

I am using Eset Nod32 antivirus.

I am monitoring my HDD, but there is nothing being demanded at the time of stutter. Page file is system managed. HDD is not very old. Its a WD Blue EZEX and shows no errors. I even have new SATA cables.

AMD HD7700 drivers has also been updated.

It may or may not be related but disabling Windows Update sure is a mistake. Note yesterday's major global ransomware attack, as well as the Wannacry attack in May did NOT affect anyone who allowed Windows Update to keep Windows current.

And to that, except for dial up users, Windows downloading updates should not affect anything you are doing as it steps way into the background. How much RAM do you have? What else is running?
I have noticed it goes up when i am playing Minecraft. I have Java 10.* installed.
Why? Minecraft Doesn't Need Java Installed Anymore; It's Time to Uninstall Java.

If me, I would uninstall ESET and run with Windows Defender and see what happens. If no change, you can always install ESET back, but frankly, I don't see any reason why.

had a similar problem with my Roccat Tyon. After i disabled the Realtek HD Audio manager from startup it was gone.

The sound card will continue to play sounds just fine, and the windows volume controls also work. you could try that.

USB mouse is affected by [power plan advanced settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend settings] set this to disabled.

I suggest create a new power profile just for gaming, so you dont have to change the presets and forget what settings you changed in them. :p

AMD doesnt like to play nice with windows CPU control settings so also consider changing the minimum processor state to 85%

I am a Java dev, hence i need java :p I run windows update when im not really using the network. I had a 80mbps plan and windows update would saturate the whole bandwidth.

I dont need a software sheild because i have a common sense. I have gone a long long time without any antivirus. Only recently did i pick up one. I went around 4 years without any issues.
A clean install of win 10 you tried?

This IS a clean install unfortunately. I wish i never went away from 8.1 :(

Turn off mouse pointer scheme set to none.

Hmm need to see how to do that.

had a similar problem with my Roccat Tyon. After i disabled the Realtek HD Audio manager from startup it was gone.

I saw this online as well, unfortunately didnt work.

interesting. will try.

GUYS i have noticed that when i am playing and it stutters, the mouse control actually transfers from the game i am playing to the desktop!!

I tried this by putting taskmanager above all other windows and then playing a game. WHenever it stutters, i can see mouse moving across task manager. :/

Nah! If that were true, then my 50Mbps plan would come to a stop every time WU runs - especially since I have 6 W10 computers connected, not to mention 2 smart TVs, 2 smart Blu-ray players, and a Roku streaming device.

Common sense sure does help - assuming no one else EVER uses that computer. But it is arrogant to think you are smarter than the bad guys and careless to think your discipline will NEVER slip.

Yes, he and Sun Tzu once teamed up and wrote The Art of End-Point Protection, thru me. It's the Art of War, but with one appendix discussing digital security as Art of War is essentially applicable to near everything.

Another example where common sense and perfect discipline will fail you is when your totally legitimate website is hacked, hijacked and corrupted with malicious content.

Try uninstalling Logitech's driver and using Microsoft's generic HID driver.

Try unplugging all non-critical USB devices except the mouse. One of them might be spamming the bus causing the mouse feedback to get lost in the flow.

Verify the lens on the mouse is free of debris. Try different surfaces. Try using the mouse in a different Windows 10 machine.

PC is chill. CPU on load is less than 55C. I have lots of fans!

When i restart the PC it goes away, so pretty sure thats not heat.

I changed my port too! it came back again after some time. Windows 10 really sucks.

It vanished when I changed usb ports on my laptop.
This can indicate a bad or overloaded interface/port, or driver issue. When you change ports, the driver is updated to indicate the new port. That can, in some cases, update/fix a corrupt setting.
Windows 10 really sucks.
It is easy to blame Windows 10 but it should be noted drivers are the responsibility of the hardware makers, not Microsoft. Since the vast majority of the 400 million+ Windows 10 users are not having mouse problems, you really can't blame W10 - well, you can, but you are pointing at the wrong culprit.

Did you try using Microsoft's generic driver (uninstall Logitech)?
yes, the problem is worse with it.

pretty sure that running calculator, photos and other crap when i have not opened them is definition of being a shitty OS.
Plus the lack of ease of changing things is really bugging me out.

MS wants PC uses to become as dumb as apple. Unfortunately apples software are really well streamlined and do what they are supposed to do correctly most of the times.

I tried setting the power figures, but it didint help.

So i tuned off all the power saving features from my BIOS. like CnQ, Enhanced Halt state, etc etc. Seems to be OK for now. will keep updating.

yes, the problem is worse with it.
Which suggests it is a driver issue. I'd personally do a clean install of Windows from the latest Media Creation Tool (it will accept your Windows 8.1 key...should be able to just skip it and activate online if you don't have a key). I've seen some weird stuff from upgrades that simply doesn't exist on a clean install.

No it is not. It is the definition of a corrupt system - which most often is not the fault of the OS itself (or else it would affect almost everyone), but some outside influence, like malware, corrupt drivers, or users dinking with settings they shouldn't be touching. :banghead:

So does Microsoft software. Except Apple systems and software is very restricted in they way it allows users to customize it - or as you said, it is dumb.

One of Windows greatest assets is it is highly customizable.
One of Windows greatest liabilities is it is highly customizable.
