Time to replace it whether that's what you want to do or not unfortunately.

Once your drive is reporting sector issues you've ran out of the buffer they include because bad sectors occur on all HDDs. That drive could last a few days, months or years depending on how fast it is degrading.

You can take a risk of not replacing it and you might be okay...its roulette and eventually that drive will fail regardless.

As said, it might live for a long while, but that depends on how recent you got the errors and how fast they reached that number. At work there is this HDD that had one C6 forever.

In any case, backup everything important, which you should do in any case. And if you can't replace it now, keep a close eye on that number.

How bad is these numbers then ?

You have 8 bad sectors. I can't say that's good, but if it does not go up it might be ok for non-essential data storage.

Exactly. When the numbers are low the interesting thing is how fast they go up. The drive could work for years, or it can go down right now. Keep backups and keep an eye on the number. If it goes up, replace the drive.

Why does your drive has so many power on cycles??? It's like you turned it off and on every day for 26 years, or twice a day for 13, or 4 times a day for 6.5 years or 8 times a day for 3.25 years, that's just insane and A LOT for a mechanical drive.

I have a drive thats been displaying 'caution' for going on 4 years
current and pending counts are fine its probably one or two weak sectors
completely normal for a drive thats going on 25k power on hours a little over a 1/2 of that drives MTBF rating
also cdisk info is hit our miss when it comes to reading the drives tables

I would check it with seagates own utility

-
all that being said the drive is 30 bucks so it doesn't matter either way

Use the Seagate software to look at the smart data. Sometime the thresholds are different in different software for the warning.

But no you can't fix a drive

The better software will use the standards followed by the manufacturers.

Soon as my drive have a problem detection it was off to the shop for a new one. Copied the bad drive to the new one and the old drive went into the cedar chest. Replace the drive, they're cheap these days

Use Crystal Disk Info to scan your drive for SMART reporting. Crystal Disk Mark is for speed testing. Both are useful though! :toast:

cdisk info isn't always accurate
every manufacturer has certain tolerances for acceptable uncorrectable/pending ect ect
just because cdisk info says 'caution' does not mean there is a problem

again all that being said replace the drive, its old its slow your data is probly worth more then 50 bucks

Doesn't mean ignore it either, I'd rather assume a problem than not with data storage. Not worth the loss in cost of data for a few bucks worth of drive in most cases.

I've seen a few cases where Crystal Disk Info isn't correct, usually downloading the newest version resolves that, along with comparing against a potentially available MFG/Vendor utility to confirm. More often than not in my experience, Crystal is correct in its reporting, so I have no issue suggesting.
