What game is it gonna change then? I fail to see how that release will make waves at all. Its a spec bump...

Remember, X1 was also going to do that, meanwhile MS stacked PR failure upon PR failure and fixed it by retracting everything that could have made the device different.

Unfortunately, yes and no...
Hardware-wise it's going to be pretty bad-ass, but software-wise it's gonna be the same old XBox.
I was not aware (due to lack of enthusiasm towards consoles), but apparently MS have postponed their plans of migrating XBox platform to Windows.

https://www.theverge.com/2017/6/13/...ox-one-x-windows-10-sony-ps4-pro-console-race

Until developers get some real incentives to write native UWP software (including games), and until Steam gets totally flooded with crappy pixelized/voxelized indie diarrhea - it won't happen....
So far the only UWP applications in Windows Store are the usual lazy ports of shitty Android games and some shady chinese Apps.

Basically the speculation is as follows: MS won't do it because Steam has the PC market.
I was hoping this would happen sooner, but we won't see WinXBox X this or even next decade.

Never was a big fan... I think those are meant to be a teenager retro-fad, like 60s horn-rimmed glasses worn in 2017, or young people collecting vinyl and/or old NES cartridges.
Indie games simply got out of hand, and now they fill up about 95% of my discovery queue.

Playing Phantasy Star, Castlevania and Boogerman on Sega Genesis, smashing monsters in Heretic on PC, playing real-life CTF with two wooden sticks and airsoft pew-pews in the forest is my happy teenage years, and I'm very opposed to blasphemizing it with GB-sized lazy clones made with stock/cheap Unity assets.

Consoles tend to be somehow more orientated towards gaming, but they'll probably never have the same power as gaming PC's or gaming laptops, not to even mention the versatility of PC. From my personal perspective it's far easier to game on PC than on console.

Console market will definitely expand because they tend to be cheaper than entry-level gaming PC (eg. Ryzen 5 1400, RX 560, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB or 1 TB 7.2K RPM HDD, 21.5" FHD monitor...). If you consider poor or developing countries where overwhelming majority of people cannot afford even the entry-level gaming PC, consoles might be more affordable solution.

Not always the case , if PC parts are expensive as hell , consoles are probably just as much. Or even the opposite. In my country PS3 at launch was a whopping 1500 euros. PC components were however very cheap , you could build a monster of a PC for that amount of money.

Seriously? 1500 € was a ridiculous price. Where are you from? In my country PS3 was about 4000-4500 kn or 540-600 €. Entry-level gaming PC (the whole package with all peripherals) is from 700 € upwards.
Besides, it's not a very smart idea to buy a new hardware at immediately after the official release, but wait for two, three or four months when the prices drop by at least 10-15%.

I just glanced over the video from OP. The future of home PC-> no I don't think so. The future of gaming -> no as well. The primary motivation for creating the consoles was entertainment/ gaming/ having fun. I am not aware of someone that makes money out of typing a blog on a console for example ( I am excluding here the obvious money from live or recorded streaming/auction houses/card trading etc. -gaming related stuff ). A computer can do so many other things than a console in my eyes. And there are certain genre of games like E-sports ( Starcraft/ Overwatch etc..) which at this point are simply not suitable for a console. With a PC you can always quit gaming and start working on it, while on a console you don't really have this choice. It's like using a gamepad instead of a mouse. Have you tried finding another use for a gamepad ? I have, because I have one laying around here for quite some time. Apart from some mapping programs to assign different keys to the gamepad I have no real world use of it outside gaming. This is how I feel about consoles. And android is killing it on mobile as well :D

I'm on the same page with Via Domus: in some countries you may not be able to get a current-gen console for at least few months after release, and if you do - it will be double or triple the recommended price.
Sometimes even PC hardware can be ridiculously overpriced. For example, a 1080Ti in Ukraine sells anywhere between $1100 and $1300 (it was a lot more at release). A puny 1050Ti may hit your pocket for $250. That's almost double of what it costs in US!

He didn't say all Indie games are pixelated/voxelized crap, just that the source of said crap is Indie studios. Plenty of Indie studios have put our great games which the Big Boys should pay attention to if they want to survive long-term.

Content is king, so it looks like the upcoming Xbox One X's future could be in doubt if this interview with a research company is anything to go by.
While the Xbox One X’s hardware superiority is undisputable, many in the industry feel that it won’t be enough to turn the tide given the relative lack of high-profile exclusive titles compared to Microsoft’s main rivals, Sony and Nintendo. Will this really have a significant impact for the Xbox One X?

I agree that this could be an issue. Much like with VR, content is King. Consoles don’t sell themselves because of tech specs – consoles sell because of the games catalogues they enable consumers to enjoy. If that doesn’t match consumer expectations, the product won’t be successful.
