I spent $40 on a mouse & keyboard combo. Cooler master storm devastator. Just needed some cheap keyboard with backlit keys. In use for years now.

I found the cheap keyboards worked a treat until I paid big bucks for one. I don't think I could go back now. The rigidity of cheap keyboards is obvious after using others. I think I would pay anything for comfort and speed.

I built my keyboard myself. I don't know that exact total cost of my current keyboard but it was likely between $300-$400. About $150 of that cost was due to customs tax, shipping and my own idiocy (I soldered the microcontroller to the wrong side of the PCB!).

I like the idea of having part of my PC setup actually build by me.

And no, in retrospect it was NOT worth the time and money and headache to put together as it was just too overpriced for what it was.

If DIY mechanical keyboards interest you then check out reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards for more information. Again, if you're buying from outside the US you either have limited options or will need to pay a boat load of money.

yeah, its cool for 10 minutes, then you have to type a password with someone else in the room and it becomes a bit less cool.

Let... PEOPLE in my computer room? Ewww.

Also, the lighting makes zero difference in seeing what keys are pressed, unless you're wearing black gloves in the dark with the lighting off....

well, it helps. and the "after glow" function makes it easy to see the keys pressed.

Does the 5 GHz band provide any tangible benefit over 2.4 GHz?

And possibly distance goes further too. The higher the frequency, the further the distance. But higher the frequency and the width of the signal becomes narrower and its reflectivity higher.

True, and since there's usually no obstacles between the keyboard and the receiver in this application that should be fine.

I'm still using my old Logitech Ultra X, she is a bit battered and bruised, but she still does me proud every day.

Frankly I wish I stocked up when they were still available and bought like ten of them.

I like my $10 Dell SK8115, the keys feel very soft and easy to press. I have owned a number of these over the years, they are my favorite in many ways except for lack of NKRO. I have a few spares too. I also have a Filco Majestouch II Ninja TKL 87 and a Goldtouch Ten Key both with browns, ebay purchases at around $65 and $18 respectively. The Filco feels worn out and I found the keys uncomfortable after awhile. I played FPS games heavily on it for a few years. I wish they would make a GOOD membrane keyboard that had NKRO or atleast 6KRO. I've concluded I like a good fresh membrane better.

Heh. I hate RGBs yet I have a Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire :kookoo:
The advantage with the RGB capable ones is that you can sett the colour you prefer, and then leave it at that colour all the time.
