Ugh... Ran home all excited to get this new build actually up and running. Turn on the pc and nothing.... just a quick blink. Loads of troubleshooting and it came down to the power supply. The very last thing I expected - a prime titanium DEAD out of the box. Of course, 1 day past the 30 day return at b&h . Will see if they help at all - hopefully.

Verified it is doa with one of my boys old seasonic gold 750w supply. The new build fired up fine and ran like a champ with his old supply.

I know we all get DOA stuff but man... this pricey of a supply to be totally dead out of the box really ticks me off. [/endrant]

How do you grab a PSU all excited and then you miss a 30 day return period? Just wondering :p

Bought the power supply on 6-21 as I was purchasing parts for the new build as funds came in. All was set to go tonight for first power up as my AM4 bracket came in from corsair. Got it all mounted - stars in my eyes in anticipation of LED and RGB bling / Ryzen & NVMe speed... and....... CRAP. **** ************* ********** AHHHH NEED more middle fingers!

Personally I love when a Seasonic fails. They make good PSUs, but they're also the go to brand of people making silly suggestions about PSUs ("I only buy Seasonic and so should you, lol FSP is crap, X don't even make their own PSUs so they can't be good") so I get very happy when something bad happens to them.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
a strike of bad luck .... ouch ...

well i love my Seasonic M12II 750w Evo Bronze ... at last if it was DOA when i ordered it at 119chf (which is semi expensive for a bronze were i am but it's Seasonic) it would not have been a big issue, Titanium is 10-11% above a bronze in efficiency at 100% load 230V ... the difference on the yearly powerbill wouldn't be enough to justify the overprice (even with a gold tho )

Personally I love when a Seasonic fails. They make good PSUs, but they're also the go to brand of people making silly suggestions about PSUs ("I only buy Seasonic and so should you, lol FSP is crap, X don't even make their own PSUs so they can't be good") so I get very happy when something bad happens to them.
actually it's not a bad thing when a good brand get 1 "fail" while other get many more .... and sometime unnoticed :p

although FSP is excellent too ;) (and X brand that does not make their own PSU aren't bad .... as long as the OEM isn't CWT or something alike  ) InWin is also good (i had a InWin Desert Fox Commander III 700w gold and that one was the cheapest gold i ever found... literally the same price as my M12II ) and let's not forget Superflower (albeit the name, their PSU are among the top )

although a DOA is not always the fault of the manufacturer :p

also for the OP i wonder how you got it past 1 days of the 30 days of DOA return right .... did the PSU take 31 days to reach you since order? if yes ... you should reconsider your E-tailer

ah ... ok so it is ....

well it's half your fault ... you should have tested it right after receiving :shadedshu:

seeing if it starts
70ca8254_atx-power-on.jpeg

or even a PSU tester (not really expensive either )

As for Seasonic, it's my go-to because I've bought 3 seasonics (two golds ~500w and the platinum in my machine in my specs at 1000w,) and all of them are running well. Why mix it up when you've gotten something that always seems to work? Also, the warranty on the titanium is 8 years isn't it? My machine is over 5 years old and my PSU is still under warranty. It's more than I can say about just about any other component in my machine.

All tech can fail it's how it's dealt with that matters. I had to RMA a seasonic once (it was a topic here) but the return process was easy. My PSU was failing but still viable and I contacted Seasonic. Because i wanted to keep using my PC, albeit with a faulty unit, I sent a paypal amount to cover the RMA (because they were getting a lot of RMA fraud) and they sent the replacement unit. Once that arrived, I switched to new unit, RMA'd the faulty one and received my paypal money back. Now using a Titanium 850watt unit.

This comes under the shit happens category. Seasonic are still one of the best brands and I hope the replacement works ok for ya. I don't really expect any more problems to be honest.

As far as Seasonic is concerned... I have 4 of their psu's running 24/7, One of them died after a month but its replacement and all of the others have running perfectly since I got them.

EDIT- correction... I have 7 Seasonics running (forgot that the original Corsair TX-650's are Seasonic)

The Seasonic PRIME (Titanium) warranty has recently been upgraded to 12 years.

Sorry it happened...it sucks.

That said, i wouldnt have wasted 30 seconds posting a thread about it...sh1t happens. RMA and move on.

As I said, it was a rant / vent is all :) If it did not cost so much, would have been more relaxing to put it in my 20t press :D Kidding.

Notice I tested with a seasonic gold. We have 3 of the older gold series in the house - all flawless. I am a big seasonic fan after using them for ages. That is why I was so surprised and it took so long to find the root cause. My mind was dead set that it HAD to be something else - something I was missing or something I did. But nope.

Appreciate the sympathy from all! HA! Off to frys. They have a bunch of corsair PSU's on refurb. Will grab a spare to get things going with the build / keeping fingers crossed. I usually have great luck with refurb gear..... now that I said that... o_O

Bought the power supply on 6-21 as I was purchasing parts for the new build as funds came in.
Of course hindsight is (or at least should be) 20/20 but this (return period and warranty running out) is 1 of the 2 main reasons I always advise new builders to save their money, build up their budget and buy all at once, instead of a piece here and piece there. The 2nd main reason is because it is not uncommon for new versions, or revisions to come out while the product is sitting on the shelf in your closet. This is really common with motherboards.

I realize some just don't have the discipline to save money. It burns holes in their pockets. Or a kid needs new shoes for school. But it really is better to wait. Also on the plus side, you often save money on shipping when you buy all at once too.

While your return period with B&H has passed, you can still RMA it with Seasonic - though it will probably cost you shipping one way. And, sadly, you may get a "refurbished" PSU back though there will be no indication if it was faulty and repaired, or just returned to stock as an "open box" item - they are often labeled as "refurbished" or something similar regardless the reason for being there.

Do make sure the full warranty period for the replacement is still good. I note some manufacturers rip consumers off that way. WD, for example, often provides a 1 year warranty on their replacements when you still had 4 years left on the original. IMO, at the very least, the original warranty period should stand.
This is taking pleasure in other people's misfortunes, which is pretty sad. Most people who recommend Seasonic do so because they are good supplies with an excellent reputation. I note Seasonic is one of those "go to brands" often recommended by most experts too.

It sure does not make me "very happy" when an innocent person made a sound purchasing decision after doing their homework and a product fails anyway. This is especially true if they bought that brand based on my recommendation.

Until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, there will always be units that fail prematurely. I note too, products can fail with no outward indication (crushed box, for example) due to mishandling during transport. That is not the fault is the manufacturer. And of course, makers of electronics assume wall outlets are wired properly with a good facility ground to Earth, and the user connects, installs and uses the device properly too.

How do the seasonics compare to evga power supplies? I don't really understand how the components actually work in the things so it's hard to tell, but evga offers good prices on their 10 year warranty supernovas and at the price it seems more attractive than the seasonic ones. Not sure though. I also heard XFX makes good psus but I haven't heard them brought up in awhile.

You really need to pick a specific Seasonic and a specific EVGA. That said, I've been using EVGA SuperNovas in all our builds here for the last couple years and really like them. I have 550W G2 in this system and the only way I know the fan is working is to hold my ear up to the exhaust port and "feel" the air movement on my ear! :)

That said, they can be pricy so look for sales and rebates.

evva supernova g2 and g3 are awesome. Arguably the best tier 1 bang for you buck psus. Prior to that, the regular supernova and nex were meh.

Compared to most seasonics, the g2/p2 and g3/p3 are as good as but typically cheaper than, the seasonics.

Not peoples misfortune, just Seasonic. As said, they make good products but I really dislike PSU elitism for some reason.

See this is it. Other brands would have killed your family given the chance. The flood would be a god sent wave of retribution to save you from the Evils Axis made up of CWT, Enhance and FSP.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o

That said, they can be pricy so look for sales and rebates.
seasonic is the EVGA G2 OEM
ok that was the GS ... well if the OEM is Superflower .... better take a raw Superflower to avoid to pay the EVGA price ...

It's more a simple heuristic tied to the experience. If you own product A and it doesn't let you down, or it actually performs beyond expectations, you go back to the same product. And you tend to recommend it. That's how things work. And, if you read Jonny Guru, he's quite complimentary about Seasonic products (as well as others).

You mean Superflower? Because that's the actual OEM. GS is Seasonic.
aye, mea culpa GS .... i mixed up with XFX whose OEM is exclusively Seasonic across the offer ...

B&H was top notch in customer service. Spoke with them today. He said NO big deal and I would be totally taken care of. Arranged for a cross-ship and a new supply will go out tomorrow for me. He even offered and supplied a return shipping label. No argument, no hassle. Just excellent customer service and a sincere apology I had an issue. Would definitly buy from them again. The supply was one of only a couple items I bought early. They had a sale I could not pass up which is why I bought almost a month before everything else was ordered.

Looking forward to getting a quality supply in for this machine. The CX750M I picked up as a refurb for $50 to get things going is very noisy electrically. If presented with any load such as a benchmark, my studio monitors chirp and buzz. Lots of feedback on the mains. Switched to a different outlet - no difference. Even has an effect on my test equipment. Scope picks it up from 6' away open air just turning it on. But hey - it got things going and makes for a great emergency spare. Super happy with this little ryzen 1700 system. She runs quite nicely!

see, resolved ... B&H? as in B&H sound and media? if yes .... yep they have a nice customer service.

wait? you are using a Corsair CX? CWT OEM.... urk ... no wonder you have slight issues with it
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=416 , i wouldn't touch a "cheap" Corsair PSU with a 10ft pole (well "cheap" .... that one is just 5chf less than my M12II and only semi modular)

luckily you are still looking at a quality PSU even now, try Superflower, FSP, Enermax, if not Seasonic again, my M12II is on her 2nd years and 3rd build (FX6300 + R9 290, i5-4690K + R9 290 then GTX 980 and finally my actual i5-6600K + GTX 1070) without any issues, it's only a bronze but still a top one, i will probably keep it for my next Ryzen build
