Not peoples misfortune, just Seasonic. As said, they make good products but I really dislike PSU elitism for some reason.

There's no elitism here, there's simply the fact that Seasonic makes damn good PSUs, probably the best, so why would you settle for anything less?

See this is it. Other brands would have killed your family given the chance. The flood would be a god sent wave of retribution to save you from the Evils Axis made up of CWT, Enhance and FSP.

Nowhere did he say or imply that. He's merely chiming in with confirmation that he has the same experience with others WRT Seasonic PSUs being good.

It "IS" elitism! And in this context (when talking about a thing and not a person), there is nothing wrong with that. Seasonic has earned and maintained a solid reputation for making "top tier" PSUs. They have earned that "elite" status.

What is wrong and sad, IMO, is expressing pleasure when a product, company, or even person who has rightfully earned such a reputation stumbles. It might be different if this company dances around belittling their competition and arrogantly boasting how great they are. Those people often need to have their bubbles burst and put back in their places. But Seasonic earned their elite reputation by making quality supplies and standing behind their products - not by trashing their competition.

Now if they start to rest on their laurels, start cutting corners in quality (like Corsair did with many of their PSUs), then Seasonic will fall off their perch. Until then, they have earned the right to be there. That does not mean others cannot sit there too. Elite does not imply exclusive.

see, resolved ... B&H? as in B&H sound and media? if yes .... yep they have a nice customer service.

wait? you are using a Corsair CX? CWT OEM.... urk ... no wonder you have slight issues with it
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=416 , i wouldn't touch a "cheap" Corsair PSU with a 10ft pole (well "cheap" .... that one is just 5chf less than my M12II and only semi modular)

luckily you are still looking at a quality PSU even now, try Superflower, FSP, Enermax, if not Seasonic again, my M12II is on her 2nd years and 3rd build (FX6300 + R9 290, i5-4690K + R9 290 then GTX 980 and finally my actual i5-6600K + GTX 1070) without any issues, it's only a bronze but still a top one, i will probably keep it for my next Ryzen build

The new prime titanium will be in this week so I should be set. Back when I started this crazyness, Enermax made the best supplies around. Seasonic was not even on the radar as top notch in the 90's. I took a long look at Enermax's digifanless 550w as I would love to still support them, but it was hard to justify the super premium price tag for a 550w supply with less than 1/2 the warranty of the prime I ordered. With the 4 seasonics in the house, and using them in my previous builds for maybe... 8+ years now? - seasonic has in fact earned one heck of a reputation with me which is why I stick with them just as I would with a car or other brand that treats me right. This was a fluke and I vented is all. Surprised at some of the drama that has come from it. :wtf:. A lot of good to choose from these days that is for sure!

And indeed on that corsair! Just needed something to get the system running and $49.99 was a good price :) I knew it was a cheap supply but wow... that review really calls out some ugly details. I was wondering how minimal the line filtering was, but nothing terribly at a glance. Mine seems to be bypassed however

I never felt Enermax made the best of anything, let alone PSUs. Back in the day, I would go for Antec supplies. But today, like Corsair, Antec still makes some great supplies, but they also make some sub-par supplies too. You have to do your homework.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Enermax had a couple of lines that were 'Tier 1' PSUs back in the day. Outside of that, it went from mediocre to bleh.... like many others. Just look at reputable reviewers as you said.. Johhny Guru, [H], TPU, and a couple of others test units properly. :)

Ugh... Ran home all excited to get this new build actually up and running. Turn on the pc and nothing.... just a quick blink. Loads of troubleshooting and it came down to the power supply. The very last thing I expected - a prime titanium DEAD out of the box. Of course, 1 day past the 30 day return at b&h . Will see if they help at all - hopefully.

Verified it is doa with one of my boys old seasonic gold 750w supply. The new build fired up fine and ran like a champ with his old supply.

I know we all get DOA stuff but man... this pricey of a supply to be totally dead out of the box really ticks me off. [/endrant]

Shit happens. Nothing is perfect no matter how much you paid. That's why they have a 12 warranty.

True, there are always exceptions, and Enermax did have a couple - though when I say "back in the day", I mean 10+ years ago.

How do the seasonics compare to evga power supplies? I don't really understand how the components actually work in the things so it's hard to tell, but evga offers good prices on their 10 year warranty supernovas and at the price it seems more attractive than the seasonic ones. Not sure though. I also heard XFX makes good psus but I haven't heard them brought up in awhile.

EVGA Supernovas are SuperFlower units. Very competitive with Seasonic.

Only the G2/G3/P2/P3 are SF units IIRC. Regular Supernova and NEX lines are not and didn't review as well when released prior to the G2+/P2+ lines:)

Yes, when I was thinking as well. The Platimax was also highly rated/tier1 which was only a few years ago.

Back in the day for me - we are talking circa 2000 range. Cannot recall the model of enermax in this build of mine but it was absolutely top tier / around 420w? Antec was top notch back then too.

Makes you wonder if they test it before it goes out the door. Look at it this way... count your blessings, it could have been worse.

I recently got an MSI 1060 6GB from Newegg that worked, but something was messed up with it out of the box, GPUz showed it drawing 500% TDP and scores were about 70% what they should have. Thankfully the return process was smooth and I ended up with a full refund. Still.... not fun!

Could have taken a bad hit in shipping, dropped wrong or too many times. Confident they tested it after manufacturing but the whole shipment from a-b-c-d before I received it... probably was not kind.

I try to buy and support local stores as much as possible which make things like this quick and non-issue. However I have about a 1 in 10 chance of frys having what I want in stock when I want it or need it. Cannot count the amount of times I have gone in that store and walked out with nothing as the shelf was empty.

That case was made by Antec. I had the same model (without the side windows) in that old sick beige. It was built like a tank. I still like Antec cases for their build quality.
