What is the recommended temp for Radeon RX 480

When I am playing Doom 3 my RX 480 videocard temperature maxes out at 80 degrees Celcius and I am worried, that it will become damaged. I have placed the system case on the floor to ensure cooler air income - other than that I'm at a loss what to do...

It's hot IMO but it's not doing any damage.
If it runs 10~15 degrees hotter it will throttle to protect itself.

You could add some more fans in your case and do some cable management to get optimal airflow which could reduce your overall temperatures.

these are mine and temps never go over 75C max (usually tops out at 72C )

I have reference rx480 that is what I get too.

Its fine. That is well below max temps for that card and they can run at max temps their entire life.

Such temperatures are not harmful for the GPU. GPU is OK up to 90°C, while VRAMs are OK up to 105°C. Still, keeping it at lower temperatures, eg. under 70°C during gaming, will extend its lifetime.

You can always adjust the Fan to spin up earlier. Some cards (by default) don't start the fan until State 4 when its nice and toasty and they have a high target temp to be silent.

For that Gigabyte model I have seen reviews & it hitting 80C is normal even though it being an aftermarket cooler, disappointing yes but 80C is still okay, nothing to worry about, just make sure your case has good air intake & exhaust

I have the RX560 that uses similar cooler from Gigabyte. It is nothing to write home about in my opinion. My max temp is 68 degrees Celsius, but the TDP of the card is lower, so it's normal. I am not sure it is worth it to invest into an aftermarket GPU cooler in this case.

Temp is fine, but it also tells you something about overclocking headroom. In short: there is none.

Wow , Gigabyte has done an awful job with that cooler , they are not the only ones. Aftermarket cards make less sense day by day.

A really bad aftermarket model of RX480 is that, so your temps aren't bad for this iteration. Imho, you can up the fans a bit to get closer to 75 than to 80 degrees.

BTW, there is no "recommended temp", just try to let it run as cool as possible, the cooler the better.

I also have a RX480 MSI, i also played Doom 3, i also have no idea what the temps where.
Before entering the game, set fan to 100%. Game on!
P.S. the multiplayer in Doom is almost dead. can't find people to join with

Do you really do this? It will barely make a difference, you win 4-5C for airplane noise.
