Microsoft signals end of Paint program

Microsoft's graphics program Paint has been included in a list of Windows 10 features that will be either removed or no longer developed.

Paint has been part of the Windows operating system since its release in 1985 and is known for its simplicity and basic artistic results.

Paint's successor, Paint 3D, will still be available.

It's depreciated in favor of Paint 3D. Paint still lacks transparency capabilities in PNGs so if Paint 3D at least fixes that, I'll be happy.

I actually remember when paint came out... You could fill in shapes with different colors..and scribble.... amazeballs....

It's definitely one of the most annoying thing about the old Paint.

I've just tried it and I can confirm it works. The app loads surprisingly fast. Even the new Calculator app loads much faster now compared to the initial W10 release. I guess MS makes great effort in improving their stock applications. It's probably not that surprising since Edge starts up much faster than any other browser I've used.

It does make me wonder whether this means that the Edit option in the Explorer context menu will launch Paint3D after the Fall Creators Update or will it be removed from the menu?

Yeah, in UWP garbage format I bet. Not to mention you'll be out of basic image editing tools on corporate systems where you can't just install anything you want. Now I could at least use MS Paint. Now, I won't be able to use anything.

Well, there's really no downside to it being packaged in UWP for the Windows Store, though your point concerning the corporate system where one can't just install anything they want is legitimate. Still, Paint3D seems to offer everything that the old Paint could do and more, so I don't really see a big issue.

Got to admit the manipulation of 3D objects to form a 2D image in 3D Paint is rather neat feature not seen in any other tool.

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to offer its graphics program Paint.

In a recent update, it had listed Paint as a feature that would be either removed or no longer developed.

Paint, renowned for its simplicity, has been part of the Windows operating system since its launch in 1985.

Microsoft suggested it would not remain on Windows 10 by default but did say it would be available for free on the Windows Store.
