It turns out that the Core i3-8300 isn't the only upcoming quad-core processor bearing the value-segment Core i3 badge; with Intel planning two other quad-core SKUs, according to leaked company documents that surfaced on the forumscape. The two other SKUs are the Core i3-8350K and the Core i3-8100. While the specs-sheet puts out only a limited number of specifications, it confirms that both the SKUs are quad-core, and that the i3-8350K features an unlocked multiplier. It also confirms that Core i3 quad-core chips (including the i3-8300) lack HyperThreading.

The Core i3-8100 could position itself at the lower-end of the value-segment, below the Core i3-8300. The Core i3-8350K could be a logical successor to the unlocked i3-7350K, which is being sold at $189. One can expect a pricing overlap between this unlocked quad-core SKU, and the cheapest "locked" six-core SKU bearing the Core i5 badge, such as the Core i5-8400. The i3-8350K is clocked at 4.00 GHz out of the box, and the i3-8300 at 3.60 GHz. Both chips lack Turbo Boost. The i3-8350K has a TDP rated at 91W, which is marginally below the 95W rating of its six-core siblings. The i3-8100 has its TDP rated at 65W.

So, the Core i3 8000 are without HT after all. I knew it it was BS with Core i3 that has 4 cores and 8 threads. It just wouldn't make any sense.

You prefer one set of rumors over another set of rumors. Lovely. :D

Meanwhile you can sit back and relax because we're just three to six months away from Coffee Lake release.

91W TDP for an i3 ? Doesn't sound too good. Is it possible that this part is just a 6700k minus the HT?

So that would mean no 4C/8T CPU in the entire lineup sinc i5s would be 6C/6T? That doesn't make much sense...

That is called i5 6600K.

I also didn't believe the 4/8 rumor for the i3's.

Maybe the fisical cores of an i5 6/6 work better than the HT on a 4/8

What would make sense would be a 3 core with 6 threads. This way you don't cannibalize your 4 core 8 threads ones and with 6 "faked" threads, it's still not a competition against 6 cores without HT. But so far only AMD has gone with exotic core counts back with Athlon X3's...

A friend worked at an electronics shop, part of a big chain, and they marketed the i3, i5 and i7 as having three, five and seven cores, respectively.

Ahhhhhhh. Tech reporting is getting so frustrating. The table clearly shows that the i3-8300 is at 4.0 GHz NOT 3.60 GHz. It also shows the i3-8300 at 65W. This is the better low power solution if the table is right.

Which is it guys: 3.6 GHz or 4.0 GHz for the i3-8300?

i3-7350K was a joke and the same is for the i3-8350K. Who cares if a processor that already runs at 4.0GHz, not to mention boost speeds, is unlocked?
Intel would definitely have made AMD worry with a 4 core / 8 threads i3, even if that was confusing for most consumers.
As an AMD fan, I would like to thank them for dropping the ball here :)

Erhm if those specs are true i3-8350K is just lower clocked i5 7600k. Probably overclocks the same as i5 7600k does and I don't remember it being bad gaming cpu. So if prices are lower than current i5s and actually competitive with R3 ryzens, it might still sell quite well. Of course it needs cheaper Z370 mobo too to take advantage from unclocked cpu, but you need b350 mobo too to OC R3s.

I bet the 6c/6t models are rubbish and only exist for marketing purposes. 4c/8t may well be better!

Why not? Each segment is getting 2 more cores, i3 loses HT, i7 still has HT. The idea is to move beyond 4c/8t limitations in mainstream. 4c/4t, 6c/6t, 6c/12t - makes perfect sense, each is getting a large performance boost at the same price point. i3 gets 4 real cores and higher clocks, should be about 25% faster. i5 gets 6 real cores instead of 4, should be about 50% faster, i7 gets 6/12, 2 more real cores and 4 more threads, should be at least 25% faster. Note that the i5 segment is getting the largest gain, and will be the "sweet spot", I imagine, blowing away any imaginary 4c/8t contenders. Does it make any sense now?

so for like a 10years there was i3/i5/i7 WITH NO REASON why there is ONLY ODD numbers.
...When they FINALLY have a reason to use EVEN numbers by introducing new product i6-6core CPU, They decide to FUCK THE WHOLE SYSTEM UP?
Is really EVERYONE in Intel SO UNCOMPETENT?

Who cares what they call them? I only care that they perform better than anything else. If you're confused by nomenclature, actually building a system may be beyond your capabilities, you might end up buying an X370 board when you need a Z370. It isn't rocket science, just do some research before buying, if that isn't too much trouble? By your system, the i3 should have 3 cores, i5 should have 5 cores, and the i7 should have 7 cores? that would be nice and neat and not upset anyone's OCD!.

Exotic core counts? Is that like exotic dancers (cheap and misguided)? Or did you mean "uncommon" or "odd-numbered? Because there's nothing exotic about a slow crippled quad core rescued from the trash bin...

When something is "odd numbered" or "uncommon" as you say it, don't you think that classifies for exotic? Can you name any other 3 core CPU other than Athlon X3 and that Cell one in PS3? Talking actual commercial stuff, not some bizarre prototypes.

And what's wrong with salvaging of chips? 3 threads are 3 threads, it'll ALWAYS be better than just 2 threads.

The one in the Wii U, the Xbox 360 (the PS3 was a 7 core), the original Phenom X3 and Phenom II X3, and that's it I think. Oh and any unlocked Phenom II X2 with a single unstable core. Some people even had a 5 core thanks to an unlocked 960T.

What is wrong with having a 3 threads CPU? It's better than a dual core. It's not like HEDT Intel processors aren't failed cheap Xenons right? Or the i5s aren't not so good i7s.

These new i3s should mean the Pentium line should be 2C/4T from now on, which means still awesome value for budget builds. Now why did Intel cut the g4560 if the next arch is weeks away and is going to be pretty much the same as the g4560?
