Do Companies just replace ones phone or...

If one has a problem with ones phone, does a company just replace a phone or go through the Key=Steps of trying to Fix it? As for me with a small fee [Depending on the issue] I'd Remove any software/App. causing ones issue or just simply back-up the Data/Restore

I've noticed Companies now'N'days just simply replace the phone which to me and others is wrong to a certain degree...

No one is going to keep the old software anyways, there are privacy/legal reasons they can't do that. They'll first try to reflash it to stock. If that does not fix, it's not economical to try and fix it generally, no. At most they'll do a "logic board replace" (which essentially means gut the phone and replace the whole board) or just get a new phone.

OP, I'd like to see you provide a better detailed example. The only time I really see phones being replaced for our clients is when there is a hardware failure or someone's upgrade time frame is present. Depending on the clients, like engineering firms tend to stay in front of the technology wave, smaller businesses stick with what works for them, be it something old, new, used, etc.

I haven't seen a phone replaced because of an app issue... I have seen plenty of app issues but usually depending on the developer and needs of said app, there can sometimes be a different option or you can work with the dev to resolve issues and bugs, or at least report them. But to replace a phone over an app issue...nah...haven't seen it that I can recall.

You also need to look at things this way, cost effectiveness. Should they pay someone $100+/hr to resolve phone issues when they can contract a new phone out for cheaper after trade-in? Or should they pay some dude $100-1,000+ to resolve an issue otherwise solvable by replacing a phone? Time is money, if the company is also losing money because that user's work efficiency is reduced because they cannot perform their job-related tasks on said device, that is adding even more to the lost profit scenario. Again the quick and easy solution would be to replace the device and make profits and work effectiveness increases which more than compensate for the immediate costs of replacement.

There are too many variables here.

In some cases, the customer needs a phone NOW, if not sooner! So they replace it now and send the broken one in for repair. I note too, the service center may not be staffed with qualified technicians. They may just be staffed with basically sales people who know little more than how to activate a phone with your old number.

If users are willing to wait days (or longer - depending on availability of parts) before their phone is returned, the service center may not provide an immediate replacement.

Another variable is the age of the phone as well as the current service contract, if there is on.

One thing is for sure, the company is going to do what is most cost effective to them - WITHOUT losing the customer.

Most companies are doing MDM thru apple, google, meraki, etc... they can even remotely wipe and dipe em. I have that on my fleet of phones.

This is why Refurbished devices exist. Nothing gets tossed out unless its legacy junk, it just U-turns its way back onto the shelf somewhere.

I'd love to be doing component level repair on stuff like this, with all the highly technical troubleshooting that goes with it. Shame there's no market for it. :ohwell:

I have heard on a number of occasions that if a customer has Apple Care Plus on their iPhone and they go to the Apple Store they will simply swap the device out right then and there. They'll even help you transfer your stuff from the old (damaged) device to your "new" device.

I have heard that if the screen is the only thing that's bad they may replace just the screen but again it depends if that's the only thing that's broken. If the main board is damaged they just swap it out.

Apple Care "Plus" is different because that is basically an insurance plan that, for an additional cost, was purchased at the time the phone was purchase (or within first 30 days of purchase). I note many of these extended warranty/service plans are actually provided by and administered by 3rd party companies.
