EK Water Blocks, the Slovenia-based premium computer liquid cooling gear manufacturer sets an example once again, by announcing a dedicated EK-Supremacy EVO water block that covers the entire IHS of the newly released HEDT AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor. With AMD releasing their new X399 chipset based HEDT processors, came the need for a water block with a larger cold plate contact surface. The primary goal in designing the new EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition water block was to cover the entire IHS of the newly released HEDT AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor.

With a dense micro-fin structure that counts 52 grooves with a spacing of 0.25mm apart, the EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition water block offers the best possible cooling performance! The water block uses award-winning EK-Supremacy EVO cooling engine with specialized jet insert and jet plate combination to ensure best possible cooling for X399 chipset based CPUs.

The base plate is covering 100% of the of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS). The Supremacy EVO cooling engine implemented into the water block and the orientation of the fins are the key to high-performance cooling. The fins are oriented so that the coolant is pushed up and down, towards the CPU dies underneath the IHS.

Today, we are announcing three versions of the EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition water block to be available at launch:
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Nickel
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Acetal + Nickel
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Full Nickel
Every EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition water block comes with a precisely machined copper base (sometimes referred to as 'cold plate') which is made from purest copper available on the market and is treated with nickel electroplating and further polished to absolute mirror finish. The top is made from CNC machined POM Acetal, acrylic glass or nickel-plated brass (depending on the variant). To ensure the optimal flow, the insert is pre-installed and made from injection molded ABS polymer.

Availability and pricing
EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper water blocks are made in Slovenia and are available for pre-order through EK Webshop and Partner Reseller Network. All pre-orders will start shipping Thursday, 18th of August 2017! In the table below you can see manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) with VAT included.

MSRP:
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Nickel: 67.95€
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Acetal+Nickel: 67.95€
  • EK-Supremacy EVO Threadripper Edition - Full Nickel: 86.95€

I spoke to EK and they said they won't be making the TR4 bracket available as an upgrade for users of existing blocks despite being fully compatible. Considering the new TR block is only an aesthetic upgrade over regular Supremacys (they cover all the dies, covering the entire IHS is just for looks/placebo) this is a bit of a scummy move IMO.

How is it fully compatible? As I see it, the screw holes in the cold plate that helps keep the block together in the regular Supremacy Evo hits the IHS on Threadripper.

The cold plate here is also larger so there will be a thermal benefit even if the microfins are not changed, which I too would have preferred to see though. Definitely not a placebo. So it's more than an aesthetic change.

The new/old cold plates have the same screws in the exact same place (hence bracket compatibility), the only difference is the new cold plate is elongated to cover the entire IHS for placebo/aesthetic effect.

The existing plates are large enough to cover the CPU dies, covering more IHS with nothing under it will make zero difference, it's just an aesthetic improvement.

Totally agree, this is rush move just to push out something that will work "for now" until they can actually produce a real full cover block.

That doesn't make sense from a business perspective, if anything it will be a full redesign that is universal to include all amd/intel cpus not just TR4 specific. Any give them a few weeks and they'll release the bracket on it's own when release a nickel plated version of the bracket.

it makes perfect sense really, everyone who needs a waterblock "needs it now". GamersNexus already showed that common waterblocks are not large enough to cover the whole IHS, the outer housing is fine, the micro-fins is the problem here, the area that the fins cover do not entirely cover Threadripper IHS because of how the dies are arranged internally. So with a full review and more exact dimensions this block appears to be adapted from the smaller chip sizes.

Not going to argue, the dies occupy an area about 24mm x 32mm, truth be told the IHS does not need to be much more larger than that for heat transfer purposes. Heat on it's own will not travel very far thus the reason you get hot spots. The standard supremacy coldplate measures 58mm² which is way more than adequate and this new block only adds 5mm to the edges covering the ends of the IHS where barely any heat transfer is occurring. They are really just preying on people who don't know any better.
