I be tempted to buy a XFX PSU as they have always been good to me, how ever i do like my Seasonic, i would have to check the reviews on it and who actually made it's contents, same with most other brands more so Corsair.

Yeah there are certain Rose will models that are good too, however Seasonic, XFX, Enermax, Antec you really don't have to worry too much. Of course its better to avoid budget PSUs altogether...

I honestly don't think the PSU is the problem though. I mean, if it was, wouldn't it fail only when under load?

As for Corsair PSUs, I have had mixed results with them. I have had one that had terrible coil whine and swapped it out for another with the same problem. Others I have had didn't have any issues. It's really hit or miss.

I honestly don't think the PSU is the problem though. I mean, if it was, wouldn't it fail only when under load?

Because the psu isn't providing enough voltage, amperage or fequency to the gpu for the demands the gpu has under load. Most think they can get away with buying a cheapo unit then they come here crying. Don't get me wrong I've seen a few but not many units from Reputable companies have issues from the get go, or they are just plain worn out. But these issues under load tells me your psu is a piece of crap and needs to be replaced. I've seen this complaint many times over in my 15 years of repairing Pcs.

Also I didn't mention Corsair as a psu suggestion, because I see them mentioned needing to be replaced often.

The reason I have the unit I do in my system specs is because I keep psus for several builds, overclock and have future plans of crossfire and watercooling.

The goal for this rig was to keep it as cheap as possible. That backfired. LOL
Rule #1 low end/generic psus only work for low power gpus or igpus, that is the 1 area you dont want to go cheap with. Also you could of gotten a Gold unit and saved money oversll

+1 low end rubbish PSUs can be a nightmare and potentially wreck your PC when they die. Not worth skimping on.

The el cheapo PSU was good enough before I starting upgrading everything else.

Those who buy OEM machines deal with the same issue. You get what you pay for...

I don't know if I'm necro-posting now since this topic is several months old, but I'm experiencing the same issue regarding post artifact on a xfx Rx 470 RS black edition , model RX-470P4LDB6, happening on a ASRock z170 gaming k4 motherboard.
Basically if I enable fast boot or ultra fast boot, I get a screen with artifacts which then proceeds to the normal, ASRock splash image 2 seconds later. If I go into csm settings and set the UEFI video to legacy only, I get no artifacts.
PSU is a enermax maxpro 500w.
Any thoughts?

well, that was far faster than I expected.

Give this a try.

I have the same issue with another card vendor which I'm trying to sort out with them. Could anyone from XFX support shed any more light on the problem so I could help speed things along with them? If it's just a BIOS tweak that's needed then what exactly is the problem? I realise you have no obligation to provide support for a non-XFX card but any information you can provide that I could pass on to the card vendor would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Wow just found this thread, I have a XFX RX-480P8DBA6 8GB Black Edition with what seems to be the same issue. it only works with the 16.7.3 WHQL Driver off the installation CD, I have fought for month trying to get later drivers to work with no success all other driver produce a login screen that alternates between a normal looking login screen that flashes to a white screen with colored speckled dots then flashes to black screen then it flashes back to the normal login screen then the process repeats. the only driver that sort of works is the 16.7.3 that shipped with the card. I looked for a vBios update but when i click the link on the XFX website i get page not found browser error. Can you help me get a bios for my card that does not have this buggy vBios issue

Thanks

I guess I will have to create another support ticket and request an RMA, The last ticket i created it took them weeks to get back to me, will have to try and find a used video card to use in the mean time.
thanks for trying to help AsRock

Read the thread. Your fixed vBios is on the first page.

I read it ALL the posts before I posted, neither bios is for my specific card, the first one is for a 4GB card the second is for the BE card and is specifically not meant for the P8BDA6 black edition. There are several 8GB variants of XFX RX-480 that have different memory and different clock settings , I will not flash a bios not specifically meant for my card and brick it

You do that then. And...you're welcome.

BTW...my name's not AsRock.

:shadedshu:
Maybe you should read the posts, just a suggestion. I thanked AsRock for his suggestion in his reply to my post and was not speaking to you. WOW

Im here! just caught up watching the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Have you guys seen those things?

I'm having an issue with the XFX RX480 8GB Black Edition and CSM (Compatibility Support Module) being disabled

Having CSM Disabled (UEFI) results in visual artifacting on the POST screen

We used to see this often with Gigabyte motherboard who didnt have a UEFI splash screen, causing the image to appear artifacted, but rarely in dell screens. im assuming its something similar. Have you made a ticket at xfxsupport.com?

So UEFI is enabled, the 480 boots in UEFI, but post artifacts the splash screen? does everything else work fine? im guessing its the image in your dell splash screen

The splash screen is normal, when windows is booting all is normal, however as soon as the login window appears I get the flashing from normal login to white screen with speckled dots the flashes to black screen and then repeats. It does this continuously even after login with all driver versions except the 16.7.3 that shipped with the card and has done this from new.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-990XFA-UD5 R5 CPU Athlon FX8350 Power Supply is Corsair CS750M Motherboard bios is updated to latest version but the problem persists in all versions versions of mother board bios. Only driver that works and allow me to use the computer is the 16.7.3 driver that came on the CD ROM.
I have formatted and clean installed several times to no avail. I do not over clock other than disabling the turbo
function and power management in UEFI. I have core clock set to 200 MHz and multiplier set at 20 Cpu voltage is 1.35V I can run prime 95 for days and CPU never gets over 49 deg

I have tried different cables DVI and HDMI to DVI and DVI TO VGA my monitor only supports DVI and VGA in1440 x 900 monitor and cables have been tested on another computer and have no issues.n Recently in the last day it has developed a flashing to black screen at 1440x900, the monitor and cables do not do this on the other computer so I do not believe it is the monitor, the problem seems to only occur on this crappy card worst 450 bucks I ever spent. only works with the 16.7.3 driver that came on the disk and now it is not liking my monitors native resolution.
