You know, I thought Amazon would drop their price, they almost ALWAYS match Newegg.

As a matter of fact, it was $184.95 when I looked this morning (I had that SSD in my cart on Amazon for a while), this must be from another vendor:

I'd grab the MX300 of that list. 850 EVO really isn't special anymore. Back when the 830 was out, it was battling the MX100, and both these product lines have gone towards cheaper NAND by now. But the MX300 has power loss protection and 850 does not.

5-year warranty on the Samsung vs. 3 on the Crucial.

What is power loss protection?

So what, all SSD's either fail directly or they do after you've far exceeded the rated number of TBWritten - and in a consumer setting you'll probably long outlast five years then.

Power loss protection is a data saving functionality in the case of power interrupts; this protects not only the data integrity in that event, but also the SSD NAND itself because you can rapidly lose blocks due to sudden power loss. Its the one major risk an SSD runs in any setting. (This has been the MX-line USP since the MX100)

The MX300 (200 & 100 as well) don't have full power loss protection, it's only for data at rest IIRC.
MX300 offers all the usual features of the MX series: encryption support, SLC caching, partial power loss protection

I disagree, The Samsungs are masterpieces. They are faster and have been proven to last way beyond their max stated life. They also have A better resale value. I have used/owned most if not all other brands of SSD. Will say, If its for something I care about .. it will be A Samsung Evo or Pro. ... My cheap go SSDs ( as in A value ) are the Adata SU800 ( dont get the SU700s). you can get the Adata 3d TLC dirt cheap on newegg alot. I have no issues with them for the price they are.... use them As cache disk.

However if you want too feel better About SSDs ... and the crazy prices. (AND NEWEGGs shipping)

How's 3D TLC NAND doing as far as storing games and data ? Anyone with long term experience ? I had 840 evo once and got burned on samsung's TLC, drive had to be rewritten every 2 months or so cause the speed was halved.

The 850 EVO is the most reputed & arguably the most trusted 3D TLC drive out there, probably the only one with 5yrs warranty.

speaking of deals , newegg has the Seasonic FOCUS Gold Plus 550watt for $69 after rebate, or $79 w/o rebate. full modular, 10 year warranty, these are the PSU's to buy uinstead of EVGA right now as they are as good or better, offer (in some cases) longer warranty periods, and are often 10%-15% cheaper. even the 650watt is under $100, & the lesser EVGA equivalent is $110

Well 3D tLC might beat MLC slightly as far as sequential/random reads, but that has nothing to do with the issue that persisted on 840 evo.

is that a new unit ? I mean is it a new series of seasonic psus?

60GB even! Wow.

Yea and only Sata 2 155read / 90 Write ... That was so much faster then HHDs back then.... but A pain in the Ass. Was windows Visa and their was no TRIM. Had too Wipe the drives every few weeks and reinstall. Long run I end up going back to some WD Raptors in Raid 0. Would only install A few games on Ea drive...

Also think OCZ was the only SSDs out at the time .. they were the first (main stream) ...
(Now I am thinking about how old I am and how long I have been working with computers... OCZ use to be the only SSD and the BEST ram. ... when the hell was that ?? )

Anyone with long term experience ?

f your referring to the 850 EVO i have owned a few for over a couple years, and they are wonderful. i have both 250 & 500Gb models. I have literally never had a single issue. i have 1 of each installed in my current PC, and i also have another 250gb in one of my kids PC's.

yup i purchased my main 850's in 2015. oddly enough, they were WAY cheaper then than now o_O $135 for the 500Gb, and $70 for the 250Gb

You know, I stumbled on the $149.99 / 500GB after seeing a promo for the 250GB / $129.99! Yea, when are SSD prices going down? No doubt the fact that most laptops and particularly high end tablets can't literally fit anything more than an SSD, may be the demand part of it.

Edit: Question... how is the Samsung Data Migration software? I'll be moving an entire OS drive from a HDD to this new SSD.

I could get it to work most of the time .. I have had it work from Mushkin chronos to 950Pro, Mushkin chronos to 850 Evo, Plextor (cant remeber the name was A Gold SSD) to 850.. But could not get it to work with A kingston V300
