A Bf1 story ....

I bought a used pc a few months back , (i7 4790 and a 1070), got it for a good deal and was happy to replace my 2500k and 970. I love my bf and was looking forward to getting some sweet fps at on my 2k monitor. Well all was not well and my fps were bouncing from 30 and lower up to 80s. Rapid and consistent fps drop and I've been at my wits end trying everything I've watched and read on wtf was going on. I won't get into the list of things I've done in the past months. It really sucks having an i7 and a 1070 and gaming at 35 fps....ugh. I knew something was just wrong and it wasnt just the game. Low and behold tonight I'm online and I'm yaking about my problems and a guy says " it's your ram" and I'm like wtf are you talking about dood! It cant be my 16 gigs dd3 kingston ram , no way . Its good stuff and all other games run fine and no way. As I've learned over the years in life and pc trouble shooting , try everything. I open my case for the first time in months and I see it.......both sticks in single chanel! OMG! I remember now...when I first bought it I sold 16 gigs of the ram and because I was in a hurry never put the other 2 sticks in opposite slots! Well that was it!
Now playing nicely and maintaining mid to high 80s and up into the 100s and more. I guess the moral of the story is try everything! Never think someone else doesn't know what they are talking about and that it couldn't possibly be it! Wish I could get a hold of that guy and say thanks!

I understand that PC had 32GB (4x8) RAM, OP sold 2 sticks so leaving 16GB (2x8) sticks, it just wasn't running in dual channel since the 2 sticks were placed in the wrong slots for that.
According to OP the extra performance of running dual channel solved the problem.

What it was doing was jumping like crazy from 30 to 80 fps and I knew something was wrong. I got a bit of that in Ghost Recon Wildlands as well , but bf1 was very hard to play as some nights it would stay under 40 fps for a while. It was like fps ping pong, and ya I guess in single channel bf1 does not like it.

Ya basically it now stays at high fps (80 -100) which is where it should be on this set up. It would reach these high fps just never sit there! So happy.

Wow, I would have thought the same thing about that being a wild guess. Huh, I would not have guessed that would have dropped the performance that much.

I would never have guessed dual channel would perform that much better than single channel. I tend to think it has to be something more than just dual vs single channel, like a partly faulty RAM slot.

Ya like I said, the performance was right up there, It would just tank quite a bit through the match. Especially I found when the spawn selection scene popped up. It always tanked to low 30s there and then It hovered around the 50s during game play spiking up and down for the rest of the match. Got quite a bit of that with Ghost recon Wildlands too. I Hope there isnt a faulty ram slot lol.

Yeah I don't think just going from single to dual channel RAM mode would yield over twice the frame rate. And even if one slot is faulty, it's likely one of the ones used for single.
