Thoughts on purchasing ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VI EXTREME AM4 AMD X370

Hello all. My new caselabs case will be arriving next week!

I have decided to purchase the 1700x. I am thinking of purchasing the ROG CROSSHAIR VI EXTREME based on the rumors of AM4 support for future generations of Zen processors. I know it's a pricey board at 350$ but I do enjoy the board layout, options, and aesthetics. The OC headroom for Ryzen is quite restricted at ~4ghz. Hoping the new Zen architecture will provide more OC capabilities. Therefore, this motherboard could see a good 5+ years of use.

Overpriced AM4 board? Thanks all!

I've always been a fan of the gigabyte gaming k5. Cheaper and will work just fine for whatever it is you plan on doing, and ocing ofc. Plus It has 10 usb 3.1 ports on the back and I believe iirc that it has dual gigabit Ethernet ports for additional connectivity. And it's significantly cheaper too!

Overpriced IMO, if it drops $50 I'd consider selling my current and picking one up. Even though I purchased the formula before the extreme ever enter the picture, if I had to choose either today I'd still go with the formula as the extra $100+ the extreme commands over the formula isn't tangibly there. There are some extra features but they aren't worth a $100 markup.

For $200 USD, the ASRock Taichi is a great option to consider as an alternative. One thing that ASUS tends to offer that other brands do not is high ram compatibility and support for excessive CPU overclocks, but AM4 has been a difficult platform for all brands and we have a thread here in the past few days with a user with that board and ram issues, so those benefits that ASUS offers seem a bit useless right now, and neither are really due to ASUS directly. There's nothing about the AM4 platform that lets ASUS's strong points truly shine like on other platforms. So what does that extra $150 get you, from ASUS? I mean, you could buy a whole second board with that price difference...
