Well, we've seen refreshes of GTX 1060 and GTX 1080 already, but is there really space for another model between GTX 1070 and GTX 1080?

Considering the large space between GTX 1060 and GTX 1070, there should be an untapped market there.

Thinking the same thing, maybe this one will release at 400 and bump the standard 1070 down to 300

as long as you take in the normal prices not the inflated mining prices of 1070s lol

then they have
1060 3gb - 200
1060 6gb - 250
1070 - 300
1070ti-400
1080 -500
1080ti - 700

That'd be sweet for people upgrading from old GPUs looking for a 1060 or those who own a 970 to get a 1070.

whould be great if nvidia replaces the GTX1060 with a GDDR5X Version, too.
GAMING = NVIDIA
MINING = AMD

please seperate that forever

Uh wrong, I like freedom of choice, im not going to be forced into a monopoly. That ever happened I would stop using computers.

You are mistaken, only gpu on that list is gtx 1070. Ati called them VPUs.

Really? Lets not be politically correct here.

Vega is a no factor here. Nvidia is just milking its 1.5 year old architecture (I guess my first sentence is false - Vega isa factor here - nvidia can continue to slack with soon to be 2 year old architecture). I bet msrp for reviews (that also is something new - msrp price for reviews only) would be little lower gtx 1080 market price, but real price could be even higher than gtx 1080... how so, you might ask - because there is no competition. gddr5x could save this card from miners, but then again why nividia would want that.

If they wanted to milk it they wouldn't need to buff the 1070 at all.
This makes no sense. The gap isn't big enough to warrant an in-between.

It makes sense, sell even more video cards.

Agreed but pride of nVidia is hurt because of Vega 56 being better in gaming (crushing their GPus in computing is another topic not relevant here).

Do you do stand up comedy too? Pretty funny.

Pride is not hurt, but its a fact that Nvidia wants to counter Vega 56 with a product that delivers just a bit more perf. They also want to phase out the 1080 for the 11Gbps model, same reason, to outmatch Vega 64 more convincingly. Now consider this; there is what, 4% performance between the 1080 and the 1080 11Gbps. This is just a strategic, quick rebadge to fake the signs of progress and development in GFX. Its a sound bite for the uninformed masses.

Last, it will make the wait for Volta a bit shorter as in time between releases. The groundwork for delaying it.

Remember - New Toys ;)

You don't consider Pascal a big leap forward then? I gained over 60% from 780ti > 1080.

Not big enough for me, i bought a card that is built like a tank, will be eventually doing some tricks to squeeze more out of it.

It's not really about pride, it's about providing direct competition with a card on the market.

We speak of NVIDIA as if it has feelings, it doesn't. It wants to provide a service.

A 1070 TI can only be good for consumers, more options, more competition, and we've seen what NVIDIA have done in the past with TI editions.

The 1080 TI replaced the price point of the 1080 and the 1080 went down in price.

We could see the 1070 TI replace the 1070 price point, and move the 1070 down.

That would be great for us.

Cmon, now, we all know little Huang's ego is fragile. He has to wear a leather jacket to feel cool.

I like more options for consumers, so I should like this, but I'm feeling mixed. The pricing of this GPU is going to be key; it must push down 1070 prices or it won't be worth it. Prices of the 70 and 80 GPUs are too close as is, best case scenario the 70s go into the $350 or below range and the TI tops out at $450 and maybe you have the 80s coming down too from the higher $500 range for many of the AIB cards. Worst case is the 70 prices remain and the TI go the way of the Vega. Aren't the profit margins going to be less for this card compared to the regular 70? Therefore is demand still strong for 70 series cards, isn't there the potential for this card to exacerbate the situation with the alternatives from RTG being priced out of competition?

1st place-1080ti
2nd place-1080
3rd place-Vega64 ???

This is only if we're talking all out performance. Not sure how Nvidia doesn't hold 2nd place all the time.

290s overclock well on the core, +10-15% is no problem on air, +20-30% is possible on water. That said, it's still much better to buy a newer GPU like the GTX 1070 or 1070Ti if it comes out. They have heaps of performance increase in comparison to 290X just at stock settings. Vega 56 performance is not consistent enough to be seriously considered better than 1070. It overcompensates in some games for how it underperforms in majority of others, and that's no way to really assert itself as the uncontested performance leader. It's like the 1070 is a solid B student, while Vega has the average of B with three A+'s and the rest being C's and D's.

Companies that lead in their segment are proud for it (the people that manage them I mean btw). When they lose the lead like what happened with 1070 vs RX56, they are obliged to fight to get it back. That's how capitalism works. Trying for the max in share and profit of the market you are into.

It'd be silly for nvidia to take intel's approach and just sit back while amd is gaining back some ground. It'd make ppl believe they just have nothing going on or are not interested, which isn't good. If they have 2048 CUDA core chips and 9gbps DDR5 available, and we know they do, they will release it. Still, I don't think 1070Ti will take V56 out of the equasion, it'll still be competitive in general and better in some ways. It's just that the undecided buyers, which are the majority, will know they have a better version of 1070 coming out and that might well sway them into buying it.

AMD already said openly that their next update on the GPU side is a 7nm Vega with 4 stack HBM2 made by TSMC, so nvidia has a pretty clear confirmation of what to expect and can just milk it. I don't know why the hell amd does that, disclose what performance increase they will have in a year's time, nvidia never tells anyone anything.

Right, and they could to "GTX 1070 Core 2048"
As they did with the G80 GTS, like I posted earlier.

Nvidia's got a 1070 with 2048 cores in their line-up. Though it's only used in gaming laptops with slightly lower core clocks compared to a desktop 1070.

Amd has to hype their products 3 years in advance to get that train moving. Nvidia cards pretty much sell themselves at this point because of their reputation for performance and low power consumption at the moment. If the trend continues a miniscule amount of people will be buying AMD cards for gaming.

There's not a word about any uarch improvement on Vega 20, they're just moving to TSMC as a stop gap solution, which is not likely to solve the architectural limitations of Vega. Vega 20 will be just Vega 10 on steroids, same core config but higher clocks + more bandwidth, there is no point in making a 5000 shader chips since the core count increase from V56 to V64 already does nothing. Nvidia might just rebrand a 1080Ti to use 12Gbps DDR5X and it'd probably still outperform a shrunk Vega 64 with 4 stack HBM. We'll probably not even see the GP102 upscaled to use that spare FP64 die space as FP32, let alone see nvidia make that happen for us gamers on Volta before 2019.
