There are a few after the GTX 2XX series of cards. There is the GTX 465, GTX 555, GTX 645, and GTX 745 just to name a few though most of them are OEM only cards so they are far and few between. There are also mobile cards with the XX5 nomenclature like the GTX 675m. But at this point they are slowly dieing (Heck most of those OEM cards seem to have matched specs to other cards in the same lineup so its a bit confusing why they even use that name).

Yea I have seen a few of them in person over the years (One of my friends bought a cheap Dell that came with I believe the GTX 555) and when he asked me about upgrades I was confused when I tried to figure out what card it was lol.

Probably not, that would be really silly, performance gap just is not there. Heck gtx 1070 is very castrated chip 1/4th of full gp104 is disabled on that one. Quadro P4000 is even more castrated version of gp104 chip. And I have no doubt that there should be lot of chips on gtx1070s that could have working shaders between mobile gtx1070(2048 1/5th disabled from full gp104) and gtx1080(2560).

Most plausible thing is that OEMs needs some updated graphics and are looking for RX Vega⁵⁶, which is overall faster than gtx 1070. And not to loose Holiday selling season to amd, Nvidia offers OEMs something new at probably with similar price what amd is asking for. It might even come in retail market but with territorial restrictions(Like gtx560ti-448).

There's a10 dollar note as a reference to the 10 series, Ti in the name. I'd prefer cow udders instead of the clown tho, as a reference to nvidia milking us by cutting the same old gp104 yet again.

I bet non-reference ones will beat 1080FE at $400 or less. On a different note, it'll be hard to achieve more than 400MHz OC on 9GHz DDR5, so 1080s will pull away a little OC vs OC. Still, I can see this card being heavily recommended as the best price/performance GPU.

More interesting rumors - wccf says 1070Ti is a full GP104 die with DDR5 at $429.... if so, certainly better than $400 2048 CUDA one.
